JUDSON L. DUKES SR. Veteran, mortician
AUGUSTA, Ga. - SFC (Ret.) Judson L. Dukes Sr. passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004.

He was born in Millen, Ga. on Sept 23, 1922 and lived a rich and full life. SFC Dukes served 23 years in the U.S. Army seeing duty in France and the Philippines during WWII and several areas of Vietnam during his 42 month service there. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 and made Lake Waccamaw his home. A long time resident of Columbus County, he was formerly associated with Shaw Funeral Home in Whiteville as a liscensed mortician and funeral director. After retirement from the Army, he resumed the practice of mortuary science and was affiliated with several local funeral homes. He also completed an associate of arts degree at Southeastern Community College and was employed by the Town of Lake Waccamaw. He enjoyed full retirement in Augusta, Ga. with his wife Zadel Dukes near many close friends and family.

Final rites will be conducted Friday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at Sacred

Heart Roman Catholic Church in Whiteville. Interment will be in

Cutler Cemetery. D&A Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the

arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Zadel Dukes of Augusta, Ga.; a son: Dr. Judson L. Dukes Jr. of Lake Waccamaw; a daughter: Marsha Dukes Brown of Hallsboro; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by wife Mary Smith Dukes of Lake Waccamaw; and a son, Ben Edward Dukes of Woodbridge, Va.

The family will greet visitors between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Thursday at the D&A Funeral Home Chapel in Chadbourn.
