OBITUARY

Edith Hill Dozier was bom February 14,1919, in Greenwood County, South Carolina. She

was bom to the proud parents, Carey and Lithia Butler Hill. She departed this life Saturday,

September 30,1995, at 8:30 p.m. at the DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia.

Edith accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She attended Rosenwald

High School, and college at Bettis Academy (Trenton, SC) and Benedict College (Columbia,

SC). In August of 1941, she married Tommie Jefferson Dozier. This loving union was blessed

with five children. She joined her husband in the work and ministry of the Rock Hill Baptist

Church. In the mid-fifties, she transferred her communicant membership from Pleasant Hill

Baptist Church to Rock Hill Baptist Church. She served the church with joy in all educational

ministries for children and youth. Among her cherished church involvements was that of teach

ing Sunday School. She was a member of Rock Hill and Mine Creek Burial Aid Societies. She

belonged to the local chapter of the Eastern Star. For many years, she worked in many school and community activities. She taught at Cam

bridge, Mine Creek Elementary Schools and Ward Jr. High School. She also taught in

McCormick and Edgefield Counties. Her last employment was with the GLEAMS Educa

tional Programs. She retired after giving 35 years of service to teaching in both the religious

and secular realm. After the death of her husband in 1981, it became increasingly clear that she needed to be

closer to family members. She moved to Columbia where she resided until 1993. Early in

1994, she moved to Atlanta, GA, where she resided until her death.

She leaves to cherish her memories, five children: Richard F. Dozier Sr., D. Min. of Colum

bia, SC; Pearl Reid of Raleigh, NC; Addie Singfield of Tampa, FL; Syl Dozier of Atlanta, GA;

and Eleanor Dozier-Seaboume of Atlanta, GA. There are seven grandchildren, Richard Jr.,

Anthony, Nicole, Jason, Ryan, Trey and Rayme; and one great-grandchild, Whitney. In addi

tion to the children and grands are: one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Dozier; four sons-in-law,

James L. Reid, Otis Singfield Jr, Willard Brown, and Raymond Seaboume; one granddaugh

ter-in-law, Dawn; two sisters, Zelma H. Garrett of Saluda, SC and Savanna Davis of Philadel

phia, PA; three brothers, Marion Hill of Hampton, VA, Edward Hill of Newport News, VA and

John Aaron Hill of Chicago, IL; five sisters-in-law, Mae Hill, Lucille Hill, Ernestine Hill,

Sallie Andrews and Annie M. Holloway; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and

close friends.
