Obituary
Mrs. Maecile Sumner Dorsey was born in Waycross, Georgia on December 14, 1913 in a loving and protecting family, to the late Mr. Jessy Eugine Sumner and Mrs. Maggie Cooper Sumner.
Mrs. Dorsey also lived in Fitzgerald, Georgia, where he father stoked the engine o f the passenger train; traveling to Albany, Waycross and Fitzgerald, Georgia.
She desired to give her life to Christ at an early age, joining the Elizabeth Baptist Church in Crawley, Georgia. During this time, Mrs. Dorsey attended Crossroads Elementary School and Center High in Waycross.
Later in life, she moved to Augusta, Georgia joining the Antioch Baptist Church, where she remained faithfully active and served as Deaconess President for 30 years. W hile in Augusta, Mrs. M. Dorsey received her education at the Lamar School o f Nursing and practiced at the University Hospital Lamar Wing. During this time, she met and married the late Mr. Grover C. Dorsey. To their union one daughter was born; Velinda Karen Dorsey.
W ith her soft-spoken words she has encouraged many to pursue their chosen fields o f study. Larry Fryer became a graduate o f the Interdenominational Theological Center, Phillips School o f Theology, Atlanta, Georgia because o f her support. W e all are eternally grateful to her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving daughter, Mrs. Velinda Karen Dorsey-Singleton; a son-in-law, Mr. Chris Le'Vell Singleton o f Augusta, Ga.; a compassionate adopted son, Rev. Larry Fryer, Augusta, Ga.; a devoted sister, Mrs. Rhumertis Bennett and a brother-in-law, Mr. Clarence Bennett, Sr. both o f Detroit, Mich.; two aunts in Connecticut; her nieces and nephews, Mr. Clarence Bennett, Jr ., Ms. Maude Bennett, Ms. Sharon Bennett, Ms. Rhona Lynn Bennett, Rev. Gary Bennett, Sr., Mr. Gary Bennett, Jr., Mr. Ronald Bennett all o f Detroit, Mich and Mr. Ralpheal Robinson o f Riverside, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law, M r. Louis Tutt, Sr., Baltimore, Md., Rev. W alter Jones, Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Juanita Jones, Mrs. Bertha Jefferson, Mrs. Alzora Blakely all o f Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Ossa Brown, Columbus, Ohio and Mr. Frankie Rainey, Baltimore, Md.; godchildren, Ms. Andrea Maecile W right, Miriam Stalling and Miss Chaunda M. Preacher; many other loving relatives and special friends in Augusta, Atlanta, Waycross, and Florida.
