"We are confident, I say, And willing rather to be absent from the body,
And to be present with the Lord." . . . II Corinthians 5:8
Mrs. Dora Elizabeth Dillahunt-Cooper, was born July 4,192 3 ,(and In d epen d en t as she would say) to the late Fred Dillahunt and Annie Williams Dillahunt in New Bern, North Carolina. She was plucked for God's Beautiful Garden on Friday evening, October 17, 2003, in Hampton, Virginia.
She was family oriented, not just with her family (ten brothers and sisters), but with the whole Pleasant Hill Community in New Bern.
She accepted Christ at an early age, and joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. We be lieve God gave her the GIFT OF TEACH ING according to Ephesians 4:11 - "and he gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelist; and some pastors and teachers . . . " That GIFT she used throughout her Christian walk.
She received her early education in the Craven County School System. In pursuing her God-given chosen profession of Teach ing, she furthered her education by attending Elizabeth City State College. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Teach ing, she journeyed to Georgia in 1949. She taught in the rural church schools, as well as Waynesboro Elementary School and The Youth Development Center in Richmond County Georgia, retiring in 1980.
Dora Dillahunt was joined in Holy Matrimony to Floyd Cooper on January 2, 1951. To this union they were blessed with two lovely daughters.
She joined the Portersville Baptist Church, later moving mem bership to Elim Baptist Church. She was a loving Christian and Mother. She trained her children well and saw that her children received an education and they knew God as their Savior. In simplicity and quietness, yet earnestly and loving, she served her church, community, family and friends. Her love of God, her strong convictions, her devotion to her family and her love of people are a tribute to her memory. Her last words to her daugh ters were, "Baby, I 'm Ju st A M odel ForJesus. "

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Evang. Trumilla Cooper of Baltimore, MD and Mrs. Patricia (Andrew) Lockhart of Hampton, Virginia; three grandchildren, Parnell T. (Crystal) Cooper of Augusta, GA, Stephanie and Shannon Lockhart of Hampton, Virginia; four great grandchildren, Tristan, Parnell, Jr., Shai, Jair; three sisters, Essie M. (James) Arnold, Virginia Beach, VA, Edna Marie (Robert) Ratliff, Charlotte, NC and Carolyn (Bobby) McCoy, New Bern, NC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Irene Cooper, Augusta,GA; two brothers, Hugh A. (Joan) Dillahunt, Detroit, MI and Rev. Leamon (Edna) Dillahunt, New Bern, NC; two god-daughters, Rev. Winnie Graham, of Baltimore, MD and Ms. Maggie Hill, of Augusta, GA; god-sons, Sterling Wimberly, of Atlanta, GA and Xavier Wimberly, of Waynesboro, GA; spe cial friends, Ms. Quick and Mrs. Lassiter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
