** OBITUARY **
Mrs. Farris L. (Mary Alice Jackson) Diggs, was born in Richmond County, Augusta, Georgia on December 5, 1933 to Mrs. Josephine Jackson Kearns. She departed this life Saturday, July 19,1986 at Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center. She was converted and baptized at the Gumming Grove Baptist Church by the late Rev. J.D. Williams.
She attended public schools in Richmond County and was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School, Class of 1951. Alice worked faithfully in her church until her death. She was a member of the Senior Choir, a Primary Teacher for the Sunday School for 15 years, one of the organizers of The Willing Workers Club, where she served as Vice President for 13 years and President for 2 years. She worked successfully for years with the Vacation Bible School, Junior Mission and a member of the Trustee Wives Club, where she served as Treasurer.
In the community she worked at The St. Joseph Hospital, The Aiken County School System and was employed by The Richmond County Board of Education at East Augusta Middle School. She was assistant Treasurer of the Richmond County para professionals in Education.
She was married to Farris L. Diggs on December 5,1953. To this union 3 lovely daughters were born. A devoted wife, dedicated and dynamic mother, with a beautiful relationship with her daughters. She loved children. Her Christian motto summarizing her life is , "If I can help somebody then my living shall not be in vain".
Survivors: devoted husband, Farris L. Diggs; three daughters, Ms. Cythinia T. Diggs, Atlanta, Ga., Ms. Deborah F. Diggs, Sharon K. Diggs; mother, Mrs. Josephine J. Kearns; stepfather, Mr. Theredore Kearns both of Willow Grove, PA.; mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie C. Diggs; future son-in-law, Ronald E. Brown; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Diggs, Rev. Willie Diggs and Sylvester Payne; three sisters-inlaw, Mrs. Margaret Diggs, Mrs. Stella Diggs and Mrs. Barbara Moton; one God son, Quinton O. Simpkins; one God daughter, Tralyne Usry; three adopted sisters, Queenie Childs, A.B. Simpkins, Doris Isom; four aunts; four uncles; one adopted son, Timothy Harvey; one adopted, daughter, Cynthia Henderson; neices, nephews, cousins and man/, many bereaved friends.
