Lawrence Dicks III
November 7, 1957 - January 18, 2003
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted. " Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
Lawrence Dicks III was born in Augusta, Georgia to Lawrence Dicks Jr. and Dorothy B. Dicks. Lawrence was affectionately called "Sputnik". The name was pinned because of the scientific era and the Russian Missile which was launched just a few days before his birth.
Lawrence attended Immaculate Conception and graduated from Aquinas High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Paine College for one year. While attending Paine College he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. After matriculating at Paine, he joined the military and served as a cryptologist. Upon completion of his military tenure, he enrolled in Georgia State University then the Atlanta College of Medical and Dental Careers. He graduated as a medical technician and taught several related courses at the school. He continued his studies and became a Registered Medical Technologist. He was employed by the Aiken Regional Medical Center as a supervisor in the Medical Laboratory.
As an infant, Lawrence was christened at William Memorial CME Church. While in the military, he remembered the church and sent financial contributions regularly. However, after marriage, he joined Gethsemane Baptist Church to be with his family. Lawrence was a member of the trustee board and spoke often about having to attend trustee meetings with great delight. He was a caring, loyal, and giving individual, always eager to share and bring joy to his family.
At an early age, Lawrence and Donna M. Trowell were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with two children, Adrienne and Johnathan.
Lawrence had several hobbies - fishing, renovating old household appliances, working on and rebuilding old cars, motorcycle riding, karate, and just enjoying the simple outdoor life with his family and especially Johnathan (J-Rock).
He leaves to cherish in fondest memories, a devoted wife, Donna M. Dicks; a loyal and dedicated daughter, Adrienne N. Dicks; loving/supportive parents, Lawrence and Dorothy B. Dicks; one brother, Ron B. (Glenda A.) Dicks, Chamblee, Georgia; a grandmother, Carrie L. Dicks; two aunts, Dorothy E. Dicks and Loretta D. Jefferson, Fayetteville, North Carolina; one uncle, William B. Dicks, Baltimore, Maryland; a father and a mother-in-law, Jacob and Mary Trowell; godparents; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Johnathan Lawrence Dicks
April 26, 1992 - January 18, 2003
"Now I lay me down to sleep, Ipray the Lord my soul to keep. See me safely through the night, wake me with the morning light. "
Johnathan Lawrence Dicks was born in Augusta, Georgia to Lawrence Dicks III and Donna M. Dicks in the Spring of 1992. What a day ofjoy and jubilance that was, not only for his parents but for his sister who adored and cherished him and the other members of the family. Johnathan was the Apple of Everyones Eyes.
At the age of nine, he was sublimated and baptized by his grandfather, Reverend Jacob C. Trowell at Gethsemane Baptist Church. He loved the church and referred to it as "Thats My Church." Each year he looked forward with great anticipation to Vacation Bible School, the Youth Revivals, the regular Sunday Services, and all the activities related to the church.
Johnathan attended A. Brian Merry Elementary School from grades K-5. He was an honor roll student throughout his academic years, received many awards and honors. At Merry, he served as a school patrol, assisted as a hall monitor, had an assigned reading buddy kindergarten, and was involved in any and every aspect of the school experience. Johnathan had many, many nicknames...Johnny Boy, J-Rock, Sweetie Pie, Round Head, Head Man, and Jonakin; all of these names fit him, because he was an adorable, lovable, caring, loyal, and giving child, eager to bring joy, happiness, and comfort to his family and friends. He was a jovial little boy, always eager to make someone laugh by telling some joke(s) or some story that he read which might cause someone to laugh or question him. He was a member of Cub Scouts of America, Richmond County Recreation Department football league, and earned several belts and certificates in karate.
Johnathan is survived by a loving and dedicated mother, Donna M. Dicks; a loyal and compassionate sister, Adrienne N. Dicks; paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy B. Dicks; maternal grandparents, Jacob and Mary Trowell; uncles, Ron B. Dicks and Calvin B. Trowell; aunts, Dorothy E. Dicks, Helen Nipper, and Loretta D. Jefferson; godparents; several great uncles, cousins, and friends.
