Carrie L. Dicks was born the third sibling to the late Will iam Berry and Virginia Richardson on August 13, 1912. Her life ended on Tuesday, August 6, 2006.
Mrs. Dicks was a native of Augusta and attended the Mauge Street Elementary School and Haines Industrial Institute of Augusta, Georgia. Upon completing the elementary and high school grades, she enrolled in Luvenias School of Cosmetology and became a licensed beautician.
As a young adult, she married the late Lawrence Dicks, Sr. and to this union five children were born; two preceded her in death: Comer R. Dicks and William B. Dicks.
Being an active and involved member of Thankful Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia, Mrs. Dicks engaged herself in the church as a Sunday School teacher, president of the Deaconess Board, a member of the Senior Citizens Ministry, chairperson of many fundraisers, and she often served as chairperson of the Church Anniversary Committee.
Friends and family alike describe Mrs. Dicks as one who loved her family, constantly giving good counsel. She was a strongwilled person and always looked on the positive side of life. Her love for people was evident as she embraced many through her witty expressions, community outreach and friendships.
Survivors are: one son, Lawrence (Dorothy) Dicks, Au gusta; two daughters, Dorothy E. Dicks, Augusta, and Loretta Dicks Jefferson, Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ronald Dicks, Chandra Dicks, Teresa Jefferson and Casey Phillips; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
"Let us not mourn her going; Let us rejoice to know that earthly labors are finished,
She was prepared to go. Let us emulate her virtues that many of us may say: The world is brighter, better, because she passed this way."

We are so foolish about death. We will not learn How it is wages paid to those who earn,
How it is a gift for which on earth we yearn To be set free from bondage to the flesh; How it is winning Heavens eternal gain,
How it means freedom evermore from pain, How it untangles every mortal mesh. . . We forget that it means only life . . .
Life with alljoy, peace, rest, andglory rife, The victory won and ended all strife. -W.C. DOANE

When I Must Leave You
When 1 must leave you for a little while Please do not grieve and shed wild tears And hug your sorrow to you through the years, But start out bravely with a gallant smile
And for my sake and in His name, Live on and do all things the same. Feed not your loneliness on empty days But fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near. And never, never be afraid to die For 1 am waiting for you in the sky.
