Obsequies for Deacon John Crawford, Gardner Grove Baptist Church, [Augusta, Georgia], Sunday, July 24, 1977, 5:00 p.m., Rev. Willie Parks, officiating

** O B I T U A R Y **

Deacon John Crawford was born in McDuffie County, April 24, 1 9 0 7 to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Crawford. He died July 1 8 ,1 9 7 7 at 1 0 :3 0 a.m.

He became a Christian when he was quite young and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. John D. Wiggins. He lived a Christian life ever afterward.

Dea. John Crawford served as a faithful deacon, Sunday School Teacher and on the Building Committee of his Church, un til he heard his Father's call.

His Christian life was as the fragrance of beautiful roses, and his influence will live forever in whatever places he has resided. We are paying tribute to one of God's gentle men, upon whose head rests a crown, studded with sparkling jewels of his golden deeds. He was quiet in his manner, pleasant toward everyone and enjoyed talking and wspecially about the Lord and His cause. He would often say, " I'll be ready when the Lord calls m e." He chose to tell the Lord of his suffering. He will be missed by the family and all that knew him, but this is God's way; His will must be done.

In 1 9 3 3 he was married to Mrs. Katherine Morgan Crawford, to this union two children were born.

He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife, Mrs. Katherine Craw

ford, one son, John Crawford, Jr., one daughter, Ms. Carrie

Crawford, two brothers, Mr. Sam Crawford, and William Craw

ford, one sister, Mrs. Mary B. C. Taylor all of Augusta, three

sisters-in-law, Bessie Palmer, Mary Crawford, Augusta, Berdie Mae

Crawford, Ind iana, and a host of nieces and nephews and other

relatives and friends.

********

Why do we mourn departed friends:
or shake at death's alarm. Tis but the voice that Jesus sends To call them to his arms, This just another soldier gone
To get a great reward, He fought the fight, He kept the faith, And now he's gone home to God.

His soul has gone to God The earth will soon chain its own, But he is shouting around the throne, While we are left here to mourn But someday we will meet again All of our love ones who has gone Someday we will reach that land: Where parting will be no more.
