Obituary
Jean S. Cotton born August 10,1929 to Edith and the late Robert A. Sutton. She was also the foster daughter of an aunt, the late Myrtle S. Parker. She de parted from this life on Wednesday, August 3, 1983.
During her childhood, she was a member of the Baptist Faith. She later converted to the Episcopal Faith and was a member of Trinity Episcopal at the time of her demise.
She was educated in the public schools of Portsmouth, Virginia and received her bachelors degree from Virginia State College. She did graduate work at D.C. Teachers College.
She came to Washington, D.C. in 1951 and was employed by the Federal Government. She returned to Portsmouth Virginia in 1953 and worked in the public school sys tem for several years. She returned to Washington D.C. at which time she started working at the Childrens Center in Laurel; Maryland as a counselor from 1960 to 1965. She continued her District Government employment by transferring to the Public Assistance Division, now the Income Maintenance Administration where she was a suparvisor in the office of Management Systems at the time of her death.
Survivors include a husband, Alexander; three children; Carlton A., Michael R., arid Anita E., one grandchild, Lauren fcichelle Hurchison Cotton, mother, Edith Batcheler,

four sisters; Jeanette Darden, Iris Faye Ruffin, Gloria Beasley and Jane Doxie; two brothers; Robert A. Sutton Jr. and Nathaniel Batcheler Jr.; a beloved cousin, Elinor Smith, with whom she shared a sis terly relationship; three god-children; Leslie Wilson, Roy Karshall_Johnson, Jr, Raymon Mark Jehnson;"arid, a host of aunts, unclesYother relatives and friends.
