George William Collier, Sr. was the sixth child in a family of ten children born to the
late George T. and Lillie W. Collier. He was
b o m in Augusta, Georgia on the 10th of July,
1916.

George attended the public elementary
schools of Richmond County, Augusta, Georgia,
and attended Walker Baptist High School in the
city of Augusta. He accepted Christ as his
personal Saviour at a young age and was baptiz
ed by the late Rev. W. P. Sanders at the Spring
field Baptist Church, where he served until he left Augusta.
George enlisted in the United States Navy March 6, 1935 in Macon Georgia. He served his
country honorably for ten years, before he was
discharged, August 7, 1945. While in the Navy,
George met Ella Louise Craig, and they were
united in Holy Matrimony in Los Angeles in 1941
There were four children, George,Jr., Donna,
Sandra, and Roslyn, blessed to this union.
He and his family settled in San Diego, Calif
ornia in 1944, where he remained the rest of his life.
George was employed by the County of San
Diego, and retired after 20 years service. He
united with the Calvary Baptist Church under
the pastorage of the late Rev. Taylor, where
he served until his health began to fail.
George was a devoted husband, father, and
brother. His love for his family was evident
to anyone who came, to know him. He was a
man who will be greatly missed by his family,
and friends. God called him from labor to re
ward on Friday, November 20, 1981 at 4:57 A.M.
He leaves his loving and devoted wife, Ella
Louise Collier; son, George William Collier,
Jr. of Long Beach, CA.; three daughters, Donna
Collier, and Sandra McFadden both of San Diego
and Roslyn Chargois of Albany, Georgia; three
sisters, Lillie Burton and Bessie Jones both of
Westbury, Long Island, New York, and Julia But
ler of Augusta, Georgia; Seven grandchildren,
and a host of other relatives and friends to
mourn his Homegoing.
