Deacon Eddie (Dick) Chapman was born April 7, 1930 to the union of the late Matthew and Vinnie Mae Robinson-Chapman in Washington, Georgia. Eddie attended Washington High School in Georgia and at the age of 19 he migrated to Detroit under the wings of his uncle John V. Chapman. Shortly after his arrival in Detroit, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps where he served two years overseas. Upon his return from the service he began to work at Chrysler Corporation from which he retired after more than 30 years of service. He also sang in the Bill Moss Sing-along Choir.
