(D fidtiey ^BuW im y^s (^^C a/dei (lovingly called Big Mama) was born in Burke County; Georgia on December 25, 1923, to the late Charlie and Mamie Burroughs. She was the fifth of nine siblings - five sisters and three brothers. Big Mama peacefully departed this life on Sunday, March 15,2015.

Big Mama was educated inJenkins County where she lived and worked before moving to Augusta. On July 25,1948, she and Henry S. Carter were joined in holy matrimony. To this union, they were blessed with five beautiful children. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for nearly seventy-five (75) years where she remained an active member o f the Senior Choir, the Kitchen Ministry, December Birth Month Club, and Sunday School until she was unable to do so. She was also a dedicated member of the Georgia Mass Choir. Big Mama retired from the Medical College of Georgia (now known as Georgia Regents University) after serving the hospital and its patients for over nineteen years.

After the untimely death o f her husband in 1976, Big Mama devoted her life to her immediate family and her church family. She was an active participant in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she provided unconditional love and support to all.

Big Mama leaves to cherish her memory: five devoted children, Henrietta Carter Walker, Patricia Carter Parks, McNeil (Linda) Carter, Henry Donald Carter and Carolyn (Amos) Whigham; grandchildren, Charles "Champ" (Wren) Walker, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Monique Walker-Hill, Tarchele Sheppard, Bernadette Bean of Charlotte, North Carolina, Amos Whigham,Jr., George Patrick Scott of San Francisco, California, Justin Carter, Nikki McCladdie of Atlanta, Georgia, Regina Tanksley of Austin, Texas, April Cobbs of Savannah, Georgia, Calvin Walker and Vakheata Carter; nine great grandchildren; a loving and devoted sister, Ella Mae Wheeler; and a host of family and friends.

Big Mama was preceded in death by: her husband, Henry; her parents, Charlie

and Mamie Burroughs; son-in-law, Reverend Jackson Parks; siblings, Thomas W.

Burroughs, Grady Burroughs, Pauline Lewis, Elizabeth Turner, Marietta Lewis,

SJohnny Burroughs and Leora Turner; and a grandson, Lance Carter.
