Obituary
uise. Carter, was born December 26,1930, in Augusta, Georgia to the late
James T. Carter and Anna Magaret Glover Carter. She departed this life November 1, 2006, at Doctors Hospital. She was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a graduate of A. R. Johnson High School and was Salutatorian of the Class of 1946. She received a B. A. Degree at the age of nineteen (19) from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, and a Masters Degree at New York University.
She began her teaching career at Floyd Elementary School and held successive teaching posi tions at Craig Elementary School and A. R. Johnson Junior High School in Augusta, Georgia. She relocated to Florida and taught at Bethune Cookman, Florida Normal and Edward Waters Colleges and became Chairman of the Education Department at Edward Waters College. She returned to the Duval County Public School System, where she taught Early Childhood Educa tion and later accepted an appointment to the position of Elementary Instructional Administrative Supervisor and continued in this position for several years until at the request of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Ms. Carter was on loan to the Federal Agency and oversaw the phased integration of the Duval County Elementary School System. This assign ment lasted several years until the orderly completion of the Federal Judicial mandate to inte grate.
Ms. Carter then returned to the classroom as a teacher of gifted children (first graders) of every social, racial, and economical status and proved positive that with opportunity, skill, patience, and innovative approaches every child can succeed, notwithstanding his or her family circum stances. After retiring from the Duval County School System, Ms. Carter returned to Augusta, where she worked as a Substitute Teacher, sharing her many years of experience with the little ones she loved. Georgenes past-time activities were self-contained and did not necessarily require group participation. She was a life long voracious reader, crossword solver and an avid news viewer.
Georgene L. Carter, an education careerist, transitioned into Gods loving arms on November 1, 2006, at Doctors Hospital. Ms. Carter was suddenly and unexpectedly stricken on Friday, the 27th of October, and was treated on an emergency basis at Doctors Hospital.

A Tribute To Auntie Qene

As we wonder why you were taken so suddenly from our lives, God gives us the answer that He granted your wish.
You often commented that you hoped God would quickly take you And spare you long suffering and grief. Auntie Gene, God granted your wishes, But it leaves us in so much pain.

You loved us all dearly and always provided us with love,

Affection, support, nurturing and counseling.

For some of us, we were fortunate to have you witness our birth,

As [you sat on the sideline cheering our mothers on to bring us to life.

You proudly attended our many functions with your chest bursting with pride.

We never had to wonder about how you felt about an issue,

Because you were always very frank indeed.

Auntie Gene, we will miss you,

;

But we know you are in a better place,

And we know as long as the flowers grow, You will be watching over us as we go on our way.

Love,

-.
