Director ?
H e is a m an o f high ideals a n d does his very best, H e listens to sobs and sorrows, more times than you can guess. H e deals with so many emotions, the strain sometimes unreal. The torment and the sorrow, is something that hefeels. H e chose a life with sorrow and sometimes a lot o f pa im D ealing w ith the people's emotions, is continuous stress a n d strain. H is life is so different, the hours are unreal. There is no other profession, so dem anding and unreal. Time off, it is nothing a n d there is no fam ily life. He's married to a business, morning, noon a n d night. H is wife, she is a special one,, to p u t up w ith all this, When she thinks o f all the things in this life she's missed, | He's placed upon a pedestal in everybody*s sight, , Should he everfalter, they make a shamble o f his, life. Yet, he is a hum an, ju s t like you or me, H e is a Funeral Director, o f w hichhe's proud to be.

Deacon Robert Butler (Big Daddy), 89, was born on October 15, 1913, son of the late Henry (Preach) and Emma Mobley Butler, the owner of Butler & Sons Funeral Home. He was the fifth child of eleven children born to this union. He quietly departed this life and entered into the arms ofJesus Christ on Tuesday afternoon, September 2, 2003, in Self Regional Hospital, Greenwood, South Carolina.
At an ear ly age, he joined the Mt. Enon Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He served as chairman of the Board of Deacons and the choir leader for many years until his health began to fail in 2001. He was a dedicated suppor ter of all organizations in the church, including the Simmon Ridge Third Division of the Union and the Association. He supported Mine Greek Burial Aide Society, Pleasant Lane
Burial Society, and the Sons of Aide, and he was a member of the Pearl Chapel Masonic Lodge #118.

He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County, South Carolina.
During Robert's lifetime he lived irr New York, where he was a Chef Cook and a very good one, and he loved to cook. Later in life he moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he worked in the shipyard.
In 1943, Robert moved back to Saluda, South Carolina, and began working in the funeral business with his father. Robert was a licensed Funeral Director. After Iris father's health failed, Robert and his lovely wife, Catherine, operated the business until his retirement in 1975.
He was married to Catherine Lark Butler for sixty-four years. She preceded him in death. This union was blessed wit h a son, James Robert Butler. He also preceded him in death.
His community affiliations included bringing the GLEAMS Headstart to Saluda County, serving on the Upper Savannah Council of Governments, Saluda Historical Society, Saluda Branch NAACP, South Carolina Mortician Association, and others.
Robert was committed to the service of the Lord, his family, church family, and fellowman until declining health, but still during his sickness he still loved the Lord and sought to please Him.

He was a very professional, proud man with a big heart -- one who knew no boundary to help his fellowman and pillar of the community. He will be dearly missed in the home, church, the community, and surrounding areas.
Rober t is preceded itr death also by four brothers, Fred, John, Richard, and Howard Butler; and five sisters, Rosella Butler, Blanche Amey, Mablc Ervirrg, Cornelia Williams, and Mozella Bivens.
He leaves to celebrate his memories, his sister, Annie J. Harper of Columbia, South Carolina; a devoted nephew and his family, Warren and Almastine Butler, and their children, Warren Jr., Richar d, and Ja'Nice, all of Saluda, South Carolina; his sister-in-law and brother-inlaw, Irene and Garland Burton of Jamaica, New Yor k; sister-in-law, Amanda Lark of Jamaica, New York; devoted staff, Edward Bates, Curtis Grant!, and Dottell Dean; his caretakers, Elnora Gilbreath and Linda Lindsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
