Haw could they possibly have known way back then?

But surely they must have - to have so aptly named him "Sonny."

For if there was ever anyone who truly epitomized his name - it was "Sonny.

Warm, bright, witty, hopeful

. ray of brilliant sunshine - spreading the glow wherever he went,

brighten the lives ofall those he touched-for this he was sent.

_A

Now, his light has not dimmed nor his glow grown cold.

For like the "sun " that he was - his light will warm

our hearts and brighten our livesfor a thousandyears to come.

Carl Watson (Sonny) Burroughs was bom August 15, 1946, the third child born to the union of Thomas Watson Burroughs and Nancy Lee Davis Burroughs. He departed his earthly life on October 3, 1994 at Saint Joseph Hospital.

At birth he was nick named Sonny by his father, mother, and sisters, Shirley and Thomasina, because he was a happy, bubbling, bouncing baby boy. Now, we know that the birth of Carl "Sonny" was a miracle. Carl was affectionately known as "Sonny" and

over the years evolved into his stage name of Sonny Soul.

His early spiritual, human growth and development and educational training began at 1213 Steed Street with his mother and father,

Nancy and Thomas Burroughs, Ursula Collins Elementary School, and the churches his parents were members of.

is next stage of human growth and development continued from Steed Street and Lucy C. Laney High School; further educational development continued at Albany State University.

At the hours of his demise, Sonny was completing another program of educational development. He, on the day of his passing, was putting the final touches on his thesis for Voorhees College's VCKfl Organizational Management (a degree awarding program). Graduation will be in January of 1995.

At an early age, "Sonny" was introduced to his Lord and Savior at Bethel A.M.E. Church where his mother, Ms. Nancy, was and is a member. Sonny also attended Ml, Calvary Baptist Church, where his father has been a member since 1939.

Early Play Time: Even though Sonny did not have any biological brothers, he did have some surrogate brothers, they were: Jerry, Joe, Russell, Barry, Junior, Don, NeaL, Lorenzo, Charles, Euphrates and Grady, his first cousins. Sonny also had another group of brothers, the pallbearers. Sonny enjoyed the boy games with his brothers, such events as the sand lot football games; the strategies for gaining the needed yardage for 1st down (give the ball to Sonny, and all he had to do was fall forward, and we would gi" the 1st down.

A Time To Love: Carl "Sonny" Burroughs and Emma Griffin entered into blissful love and matrimony over 22 years ago. From this union came two sons, Thomas and Carl. Until his death, Sonny devoted his life to loving and cherishing his wife and sons.

Sonny was producer and host of WBE-6Ts Community Forum Television Show Hard Talk, General Manager of WRDW AM/FM, one of Augusta's most influential radio stations during the 1970's and most recently at WKIM - AM Radio where he was General Manager and part owner. He was in the business for over 20 years. He thrilled Augusta and the surrounding areas radio listeners for many years. He also was V. President and General Manager of Val-Tel Inc. which owned WRDW at that time.

Sonny was a kind, caring, loving, and compassionate soul, that saw the best in everyone, never saying no to anyone, even though he was sometime despitefulry misused

During the early stages of his nieces, Cheryl and Pamela's development, Sonny played very important roles by providing for them love, caring, support, and nourishment that an uncle could give. Sonny gave the same kind of direction, love and nourishment to his sons, Thomas and Carl. Sonny even made time for hjs great-niece, Charita and nephew (brother), Reginald. Until the last earthly breath left Sonny, he gave to his family the warmth, love, joy, and happiness that we will cherish for our life time.

God gave us through Sonny one of His living "angels" on earth. Sonny was a truthful, fair, honest, and upstanding soul that touched, and filled the lives of so many with love, joy, laughter, and wisdom, and knowledge. His memory and his deeds will be a living memorial to all of us. Sonny"slife was a class act that all of us will remember forever.
