Evelyn Thnrnioiid Burgess, affectionately known as "Sng," was the daughter of the late Nebuchadnezzar and Suzie Thurmond. She was bom on Monday, October 21, 1912, in Edgefield, South Carolina. On Thursday, June 20, 2002. flic Lord Himself ushered Evelyn into His Eternal Presence.
She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1923, where she was educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools.
Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age at Resurrection Baptist Church on March, 1925, under the leadership of Reverend Hennison. In 1932, she united with True Vine Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lipsomb, and was a loyal, faithful member until her health failed. Evelyn was a member of the Senior Choir from 1932 until 1990; President of the Willing Workers for twenty-one years; a dedicated member of Sunday School and a faithjul member of the Prayer Band. Under the leadership of Rev. Lipscomb, she met the late Charles Burgess and the two were joined together in Holy Matrimony in 1938. They shared forty-eight loving years together. From this union one child was born, Teresa Burgess, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Evelyn Leaves A Legacy Of Lore and Joyous Memories To; three granddaughters, Nicolette and Olinga Burgess and Desires Walker; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Burgess, Charles Walker, Jr., and Chad Walker; one grandson-in-law, Charles Walker; and a host of relatives, friends, and church family.
