Agreeable, kind hearted, warm spirited and soft spoken in demeanor was she. A kinder more gentle person one could not find. "Biddy" (coined by her brother-in-law, William) and "Weena" were fond names used to address the departed during her lifetime. Edwina Lenora was the first born of four siblings to the late Charlie and Molly Stewart in Appling, Georgia. She was raised by her maternal grandparents the late William Mack and Jennie Chappelear. Francis Stewart and Jennie Stewart Mears predeceased their sister. "Biddy's" formative years of schooling were completed in Columbia County. She graduated from Haines Normal Institute High School. As an adult she returned to school and graduated from Paine College.
She taught the "little ones" whom she dearly loved, retiring as an elementary teacher in Richmond County.
"Weena" was married to the late George T. Bryant, Sr. for fifty-three years of wedded bliss. The couple was richly blessed with four children, indelible memories, loving family/extended family members and lifelong friends.
Organizations in which Edwina was active during her lifetime were the Richmond County Teachers Association, Neighbors United, Haines Institute Alumni, The Civic Club, Quettes of Psi Omega Chapter, Deaconess Board, and Senior Citizens of Thankful Baptist Church.
Our beloved was a faithful member of Thankful Baptist Church for 50 plus years. She loved Thankful and its caring responsive membership. She enjoyed immensely the continuous contact from the present Junior Sunday School Class, Women in Christ, and dear church friends and her devoted assigned Deacon.
In September 2008, Edwina was relocated to live with her daughter, Trena (Wayne) in Jonesboro, Georgia. The entire family compliments this very special couple for their dedication "beyond measure" for the superb care of our mother.
This transitioned soul should be remembered by her mantra, "Treat people the way you wish to be tr e a t e d Our Departed practiced indeed what she preached. Forever cherishing the memories of Edwina S. Bryant are her children, Gwendolyn Peters, Chicago, Illinois, George Jr. (Sheila), Detroit, Michigan and Trena Bynoe (Wayne), Jonesboro, Georgia; sister, Christina Smith (Alexander), Bronx, NY; four grandchildren, Frank (Christine), Jinah, Jerron (Traci) and Jordan; five great grandchildren, Chloe, Darian, Elijah, Jordyn and Christopher; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Knight, Richmond, Virginia and Gladys Stewart, Augusta, Georgia; two brothersin-law, William Bryant (Betty), Augusta, Georgia and Alexander Smith, Bronx, New York; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many devoted friends.
Eventide
God loves the Aged. He gives them greater vision than the young; He puts the words of wisdom on the their tongue;
A n d Keeps His presence ever by their side, From dawn to dusk, and on through eventide.
God keeps the Aged. With hearts ofgold, and silver-tinted hair, A n d earnestness, and greater fa ith in prayer; He keeps them as a shepherdguards his sheep,
Til in His fold theygently fa ll asleep
