`The Obituary
T) everend Ervin A. Brown, Sr. was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late Reverend Albert and Ella Hobbs Brown. He was one of nine children, several of which preceded him in death. On October 9, 2007, our loved one stepped across the threshold we call death; but it was only a step into another room. At an early age, Reverend Brown was converted and baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church by the late Reverend E. A. Moss. He was licensed to preach at the age of 16, and ordained at 19.
He received his elementary and high school education in Richmond County. He attended Philadelphia Bible College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also attended J. J. Starks Theological Seminary at Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina. He pastored the foh lowing baptist churches: Good Samaritan, Hale Street, and Summerville of Augusta, Georgia and Randal Branch of Aiken, South Carolina. He was Interim Pastor at New Holt Baptist Church in Harlem, Georgia for nearly a year and at Spirit Creek Baptist Church for more than ten months.
Reverend Brown was President of the New Home Sunday School Convention for thirty-five years and President of the Baptist Ministers Evening Conference for two years. He served as Sunday School Instructor for Baptist Ministers Morning Conference for two years and as Chaplain for two years. He also served on the University Hospital Clergy Staff for more than two years.
You could End him busy about his Father's business, telling the old, old story to dying men, women, boys and girls. Where there was a need, he was there to serve mankind. His motto was, "Do all you can, while you can for the up-building of God's kingdom."
He leaves to cherish memory: a loving, devoted wife, Mrs. Precolla K. Brown; two daughters, Ms. Betty J. Chester, N. Miami, Florida and Mrs. Catherine B. (Harkness) Butler of Augusta, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Claudia Attaway, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; son-in-law, Dr. Samuel H. Bullock of Southville, Michigan; one brother-in-law, Dr. Boyd (Rose) English of Bayshore, New York; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth K. McCollum of Columbia, South Carolina; Mrs. Ida L. Bass of Bennettsville, South Carolina; Mrs. Ruthie Brown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Lula Moore of Augusta, Georgia; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchil dren and seven great-great grandchildren; godchildren, Reverend and Mrs. A. L. Cutler Sr., Reverend Juliette Horne, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tenneyson, Mrs. Mary White and Ms. Joanne Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends.

" Only You"
We cannot walk in your path, for the road you traveled was wide. You touched the hearts of those you met, for you met them with a smile. And as you journeyed along the way, you left a warmth so dear. That memories o f you remained, and the footsteps very clear. There is no way to say Goodbye, for you will be loved always. The special way you've touched our lives, with your gentleness and caring ways. That certain smile, that look in your eyes, and the softness when you'd say, "don't worry, everything is fin e." More than you knew or more than we could say. But God has seen your promise, and has called you to come home. You've gone away to G od's embrace to dwell with Him at the throne.
