Mrs. Dorcas Garrick Brown was born October 6, 1920 in Richland County, South Carolina to the late Beverly Garrick and Margaret Sims Garrick. She was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina after a long illness.
At an early age Mrs. Brown became a member of St. Mark Baptist Church. She remained a devoted and faithful member until her health began to decline. She was a dedicated and active member of the Pulpit Aid Ministry, the Missionary Society II and the Christian New Life Club.
Mrs. Brown attended the public schools of Richland County and worked until retirement as a Food Service Supervisor with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. She received several awards and recognitions for her outstanding service.
Dorcas, affectionately known as "Doll" or "Doll Baby" to her family and friends, was married to the late Walter Brown, Sr. To this union two children were born. She truly loved her family and was a joy to them. She was a delight to her friends and a source of good will to others She always carried a serene and beautiful spirit about her which will live on in our hearts.
Though the presence of one so dear is no more, precious memories are left to be cherished by her son, Walter (Ann) Brown, Jr., Columbia, South Carolina; daughter, Dorothy J. (Hector) Taylor, Columbia, South Carolina; brothers, Doctor Garrick, Jacob (Naomi) Garrick, both of Gadsden, South Carolina; sisters, Martha G. Moore, Carrie G. Shivar, both of Gadsden, South Carolina; grandchildren, Dwayne (Fredericka) Brown, Tameka (Courtney) Lance, Terrance (Brenda) Taylor, all of Columbia, South Carolina; great grandchildren, Ciera, Terrance, Cytesha, Jarred, Mekhi and Tyson; brothers-in-law, James (Marva) Brown, Gadsden, South Carolina, Johnny Bell, Columbia, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Lillie M. Garrick, Columbia, South Carolina, Esther Garrick, Washington, DC, Lillie Brown, Marie Brown, Carrie Brown, Louise Brown, Minnie A. Brown, all of Gadsden, South Carolina, Grethel (Winston) Ridley, Duquesne, Pennsylvania; aunt-in-law, Reverend Louise Goodwin, Hopkins, South Carolina and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
