On a Christmas day in 1940, in Augusta, Georgia, Robert and Hertha Blount received a very special gift. The Lord blessed them with their first son. His
parents proudly named him Robert Edward Blount, Jr., after his father, but soon the world would come to know him as "Sonny". In the early morning hours on November 4, 2003, Sonny quietly transcended this earth and joined his daddy, sister Jeannene and our Lord in the celestial heavens.
He received his education in the Richmond County School System and gradu
ated from Lucy C. Laney High School, Class of 1956. He received his college
degree from Morehouse College in 1961 and furthered his studies at Spring
field University in Massachusetts and the University of North Carolina. His
career as a Track and Field Coach began at Dillard University. He continued
his career at Fort Valley State University, this time adding swimming to his
coaching credentials.

He excelled in sports while matriculating through high school and college. His tremendous athletic ability afforded Sonny the title of Star Athlete in foot ball, basketball, swimming and track. He was also quite an outdoorsman. His love of hunting and fishing remained with him throughout his life.
Sonnys greatest gift was his wonderful sense of humor, which made him the life of the party. His natural talent to make anyone laugh endeared him to many and surrounded him with a wide circle of friends.
He leaves cherished memories with: his mother, Hertha Latimer Blount; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Latimer (Jean) Blount; three sons, Herbert O., Benton and Anthony Latimer Blount; five grandchildren; devoted aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. F.R. (Carol) Babcock, of Augusta, Georgia; other aunts, Mrs. Catherine Fortson, Trenton, New Jersey, Mrs. Ruby Latimer and Mrs. Elizabeth Latimer, both of Augusta, Georgia; brother-in-law, Dr. Earl Cooper, Los Angeles, Califor nia; nieces and nephews, Carol Lynn, Earl Latimer, Lori Allison, and Krista Elaine Cooper, Latimer Blount, Jr., and Ladonna Jeannene Blount, great-nephew, Chris tian Earl Cooper; and a host of cousins and friends.

Should You Go First
Should you go first and 1 remain to walk the road alone, Ill live in memorys garden dear, with happy days weve known. In Spring Ill wait for roses red, when fades the violets blue, In early Fall when brown leaves fall, Ill catch a glimpse of you. Should you go first and I remain, For battles to be fought, Each thing youve touched along the way will be a hallowed spot. Ill hear your voice, Ill see your smile, Though blindly I may grope, The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope. Should you go first and I remain, One thing Id have you do: Walk slowly down the path of death, For soon Ill follow you. Ill want to know each step you take that I may walk the same, For some day down that lonely road youll hear me call your name.
-Albert K. (Rosy) Rowswell
Written in the Beautitudes are these words; "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted." Surely these words ring true today. Your presence here this morning, the lovely florals received, the beautiful words spoken and sung and your prayers have been wonderful sources of comfort. On behalf of our family, we would like to say a most sincere, "Thank you." ~ THE FAMILY
