** OBITUARY **
Mr. John Clarence Bentley was born on January 24,1922 in Lincoln County, Georgia to Mr. Fred M. Bentley and Mrs. Mattie Fouch Bentley. He departed this life on March 19, 1985.
At an early age he became a member of Maple Spring Baptist Church in Lincolnton, Georgia. Later he was baptized and united in the Northwest Church of Christ in Detroit, Michigan. Upon relocating to Texas he was united in the College Hill Church of Christ in Fortworth, Texas.
As a young man, he served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Bentley was a barber by profession and worked in Augusta, Georgia, New York City, Richmond, Virginia, and Detroit, Michigan. He was also employed by American Airlines and served twenty years until his retirement. During this time of service he received the customer service award for outstanding customer relations.
He expressed his love for music by playing the harmonica and guitar as a hobby and singing with the original Swanee Quintet.
He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Marjorie Bentley of Fort Worth, Texas, and their daughter, Marshon Bentley of Fort Worth, Texas; of his former wife, Ruby Bentley, who is deceased he leaves five daughters, Bess Daniels of New Haven, Connecticut, Ruth Jones of Augusta, Georgia, Gwedolyn Clayborne of Glenco, Illinois, Patricia Steele of Augusta, Georgia, Esther Reaves of Evanston, Illinois; two sons, Clarence Bentley of Miami, Florida, and Milford Bentley of Romulus, Michigan; two step-daughters, Renita White of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Tina Christiana of Detroit, Michigan; one step-son, Beleto Christiana, also of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of other relatives and friends.
