OBITUARY
Of
Hardy S. Bennings, St.
On January 31, 1976, Hardy S. Bennings, Sr., departed this life. A native Augustan, yet a part-time resident of Charleston, S. C., he was born June 17, 1899 to Benjamin and Mariah Bennings.
Being a painter byprofession, he was employed by the Naval Ship yard. For rendering 30 years of invaluable service there, Mr. Bennings was awarded several certificates for his outstanding contributions to his country.
On June 24, 1934 he was joined in holy matrimony to the late Rosebud May. To this union, one son was born, Hardy S. Bennings, Jr.
He was converted and baptized at an early age at the Antioch Baptist Church; consequently he served his church faithfully as a mem ber of the Trustee Board.
He leaves to mourn his son, Hardy S. Bennings, Jr.; brother, Ro bert Bennings; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Shirley D. Bennings; two grandsons, Masters Hardy S. Bennings, III and A. Patrick Bennings; one granddaughter, Miss Kimberly Audretta Bennings; four brothersin-law; five sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
One who never turned his back but marched
breast forward,
Never doubted clouds would break, Never dreamed, though right were
worsted, wrong would triumph,
Held we fall to rise, are baffled to fight better
Sleep to wake Robert Browning
