On January 3, 1994, the angel of silence came into the hospital room of Mrs. Mamie Joe Beard and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of our loving mother. Her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of eternal rest.
There are some lives that disappoint us, some impressions of character which we have to revise in later years but the impression that was formed of Mrs. Beard when you first met her remained unchanged to the end of her life.
She became a Christian joining the Lower Tabernacle Church at an early age. Mrs. Beard was not selfish, hence she felt that she needed someone to go by her side and enjoy whatever she might accumulate in life. Thus she married the late Mr. Cicero Beard.
To this union, six children were born. A son, Mr. Dock Beard preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Mr. J.B. Beard, Mr. Roy Beard of Lincolnton, Ga., Mr. Norman Beard of Baxley, Ga.; two daughters, Miss Sally Blanch Beard of Lincolnton, Ga., and Mrs. Susie Mae Beard of Atlanta, Ga.; one God daughter, Mrs. Loutricia Searles of Lincolnton, Ga.; 23 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
To this family, she was loving, faithful, and strove to make them comfortable and happy. She taught her children to be God-loving, God-fearing and being a Christian is one of the greatest things in life. Knowing her children, you will know that they remembered the things she taught.

Words are inadequate to express the humbleness and gratefulness we feel towards all our friends who have consoled us during our bereavement. Your prayers, your love, your presence, and service has sustained us. Your cards, telegrams, flowers, and gifts of food were warmly appreciated. We saw all of these as Gods love expressed through you. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you very much.

Poem
God saw the road was getting rough; The hills were hard to climb,
He gently closed those loving eyes And whispered, "Peace be thine." The weary hours, the days of pain; The sleepless nights are passed, The ever-patient worn-out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.
