** OBITUARY **

Mrs. Minnie Appling Beard departed this life Monday, December 15, 1986 at her residence, 546 Second Ave.

She was born January 15, 1894 to the late Mr. Benjamin and Rebecca Avery, Lincolnton, Ga.

At the age of thirteen, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was baptized by the late pastor. She taught Sunday School for years.

She received her education in the school of Lincolnton County, Ga. She graduated from Walker Baptist Institute of Augusta, Ga.

In 1918, she was married to the late Delester Appling. To this union eleven children were born. Her husband and six children preceded her in death.

After moving to Augusta in 1944, she attended and joined Garden Grove Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Sapp under watch care. In 1950, she moved to her present address and joined Greater Mt. Canaan Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. G. L. Gaines. During her faithful years of service here, she served as President of the Mothers Board, a member of the Missionary, a well informed and vibrant Sunday School Teacher.

She is the oldest member (in age) at Greater Mt. Canaan Baptist Church.

Mrs. Appling worked as a civilian employee at Fort Gordon and retired after seventeen years of service. She did not let her age hinder her, she returned to Augusta Vocational School of Practical Nursing at Talmadge Memorial Hospital finishing in 1962. Mrs. Appling was concerned about her community until her health failed.

Not only that, but a member of Mclntyre Court # 662.

Mrs. Appling has truly been an inspiration to all who have come in

contact with her.

Survivors are: three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Trammell and Mrs. -// >" Lillian A. Bennett both of Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Carrie Hayes, Pittsburg, Pa.; two sons, Rev. Andrew Appling, Seat Pleasant, Maryland and Mr. James Appling, Washington, D.C.; sixteen grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Fred Bennett; one daughter-inlaw, Mrs. Florence Appling, nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.
