Elizabeth "Tiny" Tillman Bates was born September 7,
1917, in Augusta, Georgia. She was married July 6, 1945, to the late Ernest Nathaniel Bates, Sr. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Lucy Scott Tillman. She was also one of six siblings: William W. Tillman, Julian Tillman, Margaret Tillman Mason, John H. Tillman and Albert Tillman.
"Tiny," as she was affectionately known, received her education at First Ward Elementary, Walker Baptist Institute and attended Paine College. Employed at The Pilgrim Health & Life Insurance Company for forty-eight years, she held several positions with the last being that o f Supervisor in the Underwriting Department. While at Pilgrim she was crowned "Miss Pilgrim" and also completed six of eight re quired courses toward the designation of (FLMI) Fellow In The Life Management Institute.
Mrs. Bates was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age. She served on the Harmony Develop ment Corporation and was a member of the Mission Ministry. She was very proud of her church and it's place in history
She was also a member o f the (DYWYK) Don't You Wish You Knew Bridge Club and Neighbors United. Entertaining friends among many other interests and talents such as cooking, sewing and collecting historical memorabilia brought her much joy.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three devoted children, Althea B. Nash, Ernest Nathaniel Bates, Jr. and Elizabeth Margaret Ann Bates; two sisters-in- law, Josephine H. Tillman and Mattie B. Till man o fAugusta, GA; five grandchildren, LeKeisha B. Lee, Princeton L. (Jon' Nita) Nash, Augusta, GA; Cameron D. Bates, Christopher D. Bates, both o f Atlanta, GA and Ashley Brown, Augusta, GA; nine great-grandchildren, Morgan and Monai Bates, Lanis and Latrell Lee, Augusta, GA; Cameron, Jr. ofAugusta, GA, Camarie, Camden and Camryn Bates ofAtlanta, GA and Jaquez Frails o fAugusta, GA; niece, Patricia A. Grant; cousin, Addie Powell o f Augusta, GA; dear and devoted friends, Samuela W. Chiles, Willie Chiles and Juanita Hardy; and a host o f other cousins, relatives and friends.
Thank you Mame, fo r all you have done, You took great care, o f your daughters and son.
You loved us allfrom the very start, With your warm, kind and loving heart.
Thank You Mame, fo r being strong, While trying to teach us rig h t fro m wrong.
If anytime, we had a problem, you were there to help us solve them. You'd lift us up when we were feeling blue, Thank You Mame, fo r we could always count on you.
You were such an awesome mother, The love you showed was like no other.
Thank You Mamefo r your dear, sweet love, now you'll watch over us from heaven above.
