"Farewell My Family"
Farewell my family, don't weep For I'm at peace now, just asleep. Farewell my family, I'm not alone; The Mighty "Maker" has led me safely home. "Just think back over the many years." How the family seemed so strong holding back tears;
Yet God somehow always made a way. And I thank Him every night for another day.
Be good my family always love each other. Be strong my family, strong in heart. The blood ties, no one can ever part. And if somewhere I made a mistake, As you live many will you make.
Farewell my family, I've been called away, Walk with God, trust in God For He is by your side.

David Barnes, Sr. accepted the "Homegoing Call" ofhis Heavenly Father on Monday, December 11,2000 at the Saluda Nursing Center.
The fifth in a family of eleven, David was born February 10,1901, to the late Deacon John Davis and Martha Foulks Barnes o f Saluda, South Carolina. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ella Mae Lott Barnes who preceded him in death in 1985. To this union twelve children were born, four children preceded him in death; Louis, Eugene, John and an infant girl.
Deacon Barnes received his early education in the public schools of Saluda County, SC. He was a farmer and a carpenter by trade. He also worked at the saw mill which was family owned and baseball manager.
At an early age Deacon Barnes accepted Christ and joined the Pop lar Branch Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a devoted member and deacon until he became disable. He was a long time member of the NAACP, served on the board of Farmer's Home Administration, and was active in politics.
Deacon Barnes was humanitarian, he devoted his life in helping humanity. He could always be found talking to both young and old, giving advice, and speaking words o f wisdom. He never met a stranger and consid ered every man valuable. His favorite saying was, "No matter how good a man is - there is some bad in him - and no matter how bad a man is - there is some good in him." Deacon Barnes sought to bring out the best in all men. He spent his summers transporting boys and girls to and from the peach orchards, that they may have summer jobs. He worked hard and long hours giving of himself for humanity.
He leaves to cherish his memories; four sons, Alfonzo, VA Nursing Center, Augusta, GA (Rosie Mae), Columbia, SC, David (Jessie), Edgefield, SC, Solomon (Ruby) and James (Thelma) both o f Saluda, SC; four daughters, Annie (James) Gibson, Saluda, SC, Veola (Willie James) Turner, Ridge Spring, SC, Josephine (Rev.
