Seasons
Time to be born: Katherine Cheatham-Foster Avery was born on December 21,1924 to the late David Cheatham, Sr. and Mattie Rhodes-Cheatham in Keysville, Georgia. Katherine was raised in Augusta, Georgia by her great-aunt, the late Mattie B. Foster.
Time to Die: Katherine entered peacefully into rest Saturday, Mat' 15,2010 at the Warrenton Health & Rehabilitation Center, Warrenton, Georgia.
Spiritual Time: Katherine was baptized at an early age at Tabernacle Baptist Church, and was a faithful, lifelong member.
Education Time: Katherine attended elementary school in Augusta. She graduated from Haines Normal and Industrial Institute in 1942. Katherine pursued her passion for nursing Sc entered the Lamar School of Nursing and graduated in 1945.
Family Time: In 1946, Katherine united in matrimony to Charles Walker Avery ^nd to this union one daughter, Charlene was born in July, 1949.
After 50 years of marriage, Charles preceded her in death in
ecember, 1996. Five siblings also pre-deceased Katherine: Leola Johnson, David Cheatham, Jr., Charlie Cheatham, Freddie L. Cheatham and Robert Cheatham.
Work Time: Katherine began and ended her nursing career at University Hospital as a professional registered nurse. Her first nursing assignment was a brief rotation as a Recovery Room nurse; however, she spent the remainder of her years at the hospital in the Labor &: Delivery Department. Katherine had a unique yearning for this nursing specialty and assisted in birthing generations of babies into this community. After over 40 years of loyal and dedicated service, she retired in 1987.
Time to Mourn: Memories of Katherine will last forever in the hearts of those who will miss her dearly. We celebrate a life well lived.
A devoted daughter, Charlene A. Patterson; a caring grandson. William M. (Joette) Griffin, III; a loving great-grandson, Jaden Aver\r Griffin; one sister, Maggie B. (Erskine / Cartwright, Keysviiic. Georgia; three brothers, xAlex J. Cheatham, Chicago, Illinois. Joseph P. Cheatham, and Reverend Johnny L. (Beatrice Cheatham, both of Augusta, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Sarah A. Washington, Augusta, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
