He went on to pastor many churches In Augusta* South Carolina and, sarrmiitclmg areas. Reverend Avery was the former pastor of the New Appling Grove Baptist Church, until his 'heath began to fell.

He was educated In the focal, community schools* and graduated from Augusta Tfedhitfcal College of Cosmetology and Barber Programs. He was the proud, owner and operator of Awiy% Barber and Beauty Salon, founded in If71. He retired in 20 li from the Richmond County Board of Education Maintenance Department after over forty pare of faithful service as a Carpenter
