Obituary
Mrs. Sophie Mae Alien, daughter of the late James, Sr. and Florence Hay Alien, was born March 2, 1919 in Barnwell County, South Carolina.
In August 1931 she was converted and baptized joining the Saint Luke Baptist Church in Barnwell County under the pastorate of the late Rev. William Phinizy. Here she served faithfully as secretary of the Sunday School, and for many years a member of the Usher and Usherette Board.
In 1949, she made her home in Augusta, Georgia, and united with Hale Street Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. A. W. Vincent.
Here her membership remained, and here she served faithfully as a member of the Jubilaries Choir.
She was a retiree of St. Joseph Hospital after 20 years of dedicated service.
Her quiet, meek, loving, unassuming manner endeared her to the hearts of her family and friends in no uncertain terms.
On Monday, September 2,1985, Mrs. Alien passed from time into eternity at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
Survivors include two devoted sons, Mr. James Alien, Atlantic City, N. J. and Mr. Robert Lee Alien, Augusta, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Cleo Alien, Augusta, Georgia and Mrs. Ida Keith, Newark, N.J.; six brothers, Mr. James Alien and Mr. Matthew Alien, Augusta, Georgia, Mr. General Alien and Rev. Joseph Alien, Chicago, 111., Mr. Daniel Alien, Allendale, South Carolina and Mr. Carswell Alien, Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gwendolyn Alien, Augusta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Miss Anita Alien, Kenesha Alien and Kenneth Alien; one Uncle, Mr. Roosevelt Hay, Barnwell, South Carolina; two Aunts, Mrs. Mary Williamson and Mrs. Agnes Hay, Barnwell, South Carolina; one God-child, Reginald Crawford; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Floria Alien, Mrs. Ethel Alien, Mrs. Sally Alien and Mrs. Florence Alien; one Brother-in-law, Mr. Dallas Keith; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
