OBITUARY
Mr. Harry Adams Sr., son of the late Mr. John Adams
and Mrs. Rebecca Dinkins Adams, was born on May 3,1921 in lower Richland County, South Carolina. He departed this life on Friday, December 31, 1993, at Dorns Medical Center, Columbia, South Carolina, following a lengthy illness.
Harry received his early education at Gadsden, South Carolina. He joined Zion Benevolent at an early age. Then on December 29, 1942, he was called to serve his country in the United States Army. He served faithfully for three years overseas in the Philippines during World War II. While serving he received several decorations and citations, such as, four overseas Service Bars, W/2 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, a meritorious Unit Award, World War II Victory Award, and several ribbons. He was honorably discharged on December 24,1945.
Shortly after leaving the service, Harry moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he furthered his education and became a selfemployed contractor. There he met and married Anita Harrison. To this union one son, Harry Adams Jr., was born and four stepchildren also became a part of the family.
Harry leaves to cherish beautiful memories, his wife, Anita Harrison Adams; sons, Harry Adams Jr. and Floyd Watkins of Hopkins and Rodney Watkins of Detroit; daughters, Dortheia Barkley and Carol Ann Howard of Detroit; brothers, J. C. Adams of Gadsden, Moses Adams of Eastover and Leroy Adams of Hopkins; sisters, Francenia Weston of Hopkins, Florence Faust of Denmark, Jessie Walker of Pennsylvania, Salley Leach of Texas, Marie Crafton of New York, Hattie Bookert of Hopkins, Mennie Williams of New York and Rosa Lee Webber of Hopkins; one aunt, Rosa B. Carter of Hopkins; one uncle, Frank Adams of Gadsden; six grandchildren; six great-grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
