The Obituary
Sunset and evening star, And one clear callfor me! And may there be no moaning ofthe bar, when Iput out to sea,
Alfred Tennyson
In the predawn hours of Monday, May 3, 2004, Amy Smith Adams quietly mounted the wings of an eagle, and began the ascent
toward her heavenly home. She fought a good fight, she finished her course; she had kept the faith.
Born March 1, 1928 in Gadsden, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Suzanne Smith.
Amy lived in the Gadsden community her entire life, and attended the formal schools of Lower Richland County. She was united in Holy Matrimony to David Adams, Sr. This union was blessed with forty-six (46) years of love, devotion and the births of ten children before David went home to be with the Lord.
Mrs. Adams joined the St. Mark Baptist Church at an early age. She later united with the Temple ofFaith Bible Way Church of Gadsden.
Amy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Though physically she is no longer with us, her loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all those who loved and knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish fond and precious memories of Amy are her four caring sons, David (Cora) Adams Jr., Lawrence (Joan) Adams, both of Columbia, South Carolina; James (Jeannie) Adams Sr. of Hopkins, South Carolina; and Curtis Adams of the home; six loving daughters, Alice (Ben) Garrick of Eastover, South Carolina; Lorraine (Mitchell) Sims, Esther (Curtis) Huguenia, both of Gadsden, South Carolina; Thomasina (Clifford) Myers of Hopkins, South Carolina; Willie Ann (Henry) Watson and Thelma (Mike) Prophet, both of Columbia, South Carolina; thirty (30) grandchildren; eighteen (18) great-grandchildren; three (3) devoted brothers, William (Claretha) Smith of Baltimore, Maryland; Simon Wright and Leroy (Thelma) Smith, both of Columbia, South Carolina; two (2) loving sisters, Mary Bannister and Lee Ana Smith, both of Columbia, South Carolina; two devoted friends, Pearl Robinson and Lillie Bates, both of Gadsden, South Carolina; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dearfriends, all of whom join with the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice in her homegoing.

"When Tomorrow Starts Without Me"
If Tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see, Ifthe sun should rise andfind your eyes, allfilled with tearsfor me;
I wish so much you wouldn 't cry the way you did today, While thinking of the many things, we didn 't get to say.
I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, And each time that you think ofme, I know you 'll miss me too.
But iftomorrow starts without me, please try to understand That an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand.
He said my place was ready, in heaven far above, And that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away, a tearfellfrom my eye For all my life, I'd always thought, I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for, so much left yet to do. It seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you. I thought ofall the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad, / thought ofall the love we shared, and all thefun we had.
IfI could relive yesterday, just even for a while, I 'd say good-bye and kiss you, and maybe see you smile.
But then Ifully realized, that this could never be, For emptiness and memories, would take the place ofme.
And when I thought ofworldly things, I might miss come tomorrow, I thought ofyou, and when I did, my heart wasJilled with sorrow. But when I walked through heaven 's gates, IJ'elt so much at home. When God looked down and smiled at me, from His great golden throne,
He said, "This is eternity, and all I've promised you. " Today your life on earth is past, but here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last, And since each day 's the same way, there 's no longingfor the past.
You have been faithful, so trusting and so true. Though there were times you did some things You knew you shouldn 't do. But you have been forgiven And now at last you 're free. So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?
So iftomorrow starts without me, don V think we 'refar apart. For eveiy time you think ofme, I'm right here, in your heart.
