- Cover, front matter and contents (beginning on page 5 of the PDF) of the first of five sections of a ninteenth-century ledger and scrapbook documenting work conducted at the Carpentry Shop, within the Savannah Shops complex of the Central Rail Road and Banking Company of Georgia in Savannah, Georgia. This section of the ledger/scrapbook consists primarily of newspaper clippings dating from the 1870s to the 1890s from Savannah, Georgia newspapers, including popular poetry, illustrations, and newspaper articles related to love, death, murder trials, funerals, and topics surrounding bereavement. These clippings are pasted over earlier ledger entries that date from 1860 to 1864, during the Civil War period. An inscription written in the front flyleaf of the ledger indicates that a Miss Laura Barthelmess began the scrapbook in 1870.
