PREFACE.
In presenting the first publication of a Directory of the City of Co lumbus, the Publishers desire to call the attention of the business com munity and citixens to the more than usual embarrassments they hare labored under in compiling this work, as the names of most of the streets being unregistered, and comparatively few of the houses num bered, which rendered it impossible to give a minute direction to some of the residences; it 'is to be hoped that the citizens of Columbus will speedily remedy this, as a matter of convenience to themselves.
In addition to the GENERAL DIRECTORY, they have added a BUSINESS DIRECTORY, a STREET DIRECTORY, and a full APPENDIX, which contains a vast amount of useful information not usually obtained in Directories.
The Publishers consider themselves under many obligations to the Press, as well as to the citixens generally, and take pleasure in referring the reader to the Index of Advertisements, which shows, the patronage and public spirit extended to the work.
