- A black and white photograph of the Atlanta University Normal School Class of 1900. Atlanta University opened on October 13, 1869. The University offered training for students of all ages including kindergarten, grade school, normal industrial, academy and college. The Normal School at Atlanta University trained African American women to be teachers for African American children during segregation.
