- At the time of the interview, Mr. Haygood was a 65 year old retired railroad employee who had lived in and around Savannah most of his life. He describes the hard conditions for a black worker in the past decades. "I was working for a farmer in the county [for] eight dollars a month. Eight dollars and dinner for a month's work."
