When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free! Miss me a little- but not for long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this journey that we all must take And each must go alone; It's all a part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me, but let me go.

A reunion occurred in heaven this week Of the sweetest and m st joyful kind
As Dad's spirit moved beyond this earth Released from his mortal life
And what a reunion it must ha A joy beyond our concei\l om in hea ignified gri

We wrote this for you, Granddad, as the tears roll down our face, A part of us just died the other day, a part we can't replace. They called us to your bedside; it was time for you to fly. How do you fit a lifetime into a five minute goodbye?
We sat and watched you drift away into an eternal sleep, The memories they cannot take; they're mine for me to keep. We can still recall your every word, many times they've been replayed. We are scared of where they'll take us; We are scared one day they'll fade.
We miss you so much, Granddad, more than words can tell, We will look after your kids; We promise you we will keep them safe and well.
Our children will remember you and always will be told Of their special Grampy who suddenly grew old.
Now we've had the sad bit, here is the other side, A man so full of knowledge and also full of pride. He left back in the SO's to serve his country in the force, Ask him of his background -why, a true "Godly Man" of course.
There he met my Grandma; she soon became his wife, Some children were to follow, a true partnership for life. That sums up his way of thinking, putting other people first.
Then there was his family side; his children he adored, He would play with them for hours and never once get bored. He loved to be in the great outdoors amongst the birds and flowers, He would sit and watch them endlessly and study them for hours.
We hope we've summed up briefly this man before you lay, May we take this opportunity to thank you for being here today.
So now the time has finally come as hard as it may seem, To say we miss you so much, Granddad; goodnight, god bless, sweet dreams.
love Always
Your Grandkids

Pastor Lamar Yates was born August 28, 1926 in Hinds County, Utica, MS to the late Arthur Gorman (A. G.)
and Alcy Yates. He was the 7th of ten children and all of them preceded him in death. His wife, Earlean Kelker Yates, also preceded him in death.
lamar Yates accepted Christ at the age of 6 and was baptized at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church where he was an
active member until his health failed. Pastor Yates served at Welcome as a choir member, trustee and deacon. He met and married Earlean Kelker, on February 24, 1945 and to this union three beautiful girls were born: Mary Yates-Butler, Betty Yates-Bolden and Brenda L. Yates. It was while serving as a deacon that he accepted God's call into the ministry. He received his certificate of license to preach the gospel on October 4, 1959. Pastor Yates= first sermon came from a very familiar passage of scripture about the ten virgins, found in St. Matthew 25:1-12 the subject was AFive Wise Virgins and Five Foolish Virgins@. The Lord sent him to be pastor of three churches during the span of SO+ years (Moss Chapel M. B. Church in Raymond, MS; New Salem M. B. Church in Utica, MS and Water Valley M. B. Church in Utica, MS).
Pastor Yates attended Welcome Church School in Utica, MS where he received his primary education, under the
leadership of Dr. Bob Mixon. During Pastor Yates= primary education, Dr. Mixon instructed the students everyday, to recite various passages referred to as Agems@. There was a particular gem that Rev. Yates up until very recently would occasionally recite by an unknown author, that says, Once a task is just begun, never leave it till it's done. Be the labour great or small, do it well or not at all.@ Realizing the importance of completing his education, he acquired his GED from Hinds County Agricultural High School in Utica, MS and subsequently he received an English Bible Theology diploma from the Mississippi Baptist Seminary in 1978.
Pastor Yates worked diligently while employed by the Hinds County School System, Mississippi Department of Human
Services, Oakley Campus, and Alcorn State University as part of the Hinds County Cooperative Extension Services team.
Pastor Yates was committed to the ministry, church, community and his family. During his most active years, Pastor
Yates was an officer and member of many organizations and clubs that has benefitted the local and county-wide communities, such as Worshipful Master at the A. G. Yates Lodge #305, Chief of Bench Volunteer Fire Department, NAACP, and Second Moderator of the Hinds County Association. For many years until his health failed, Pastor Yates worked as a poll watcher for former Supervisor District #2, Bennie G. Thompson and now Congressman Bennie G. Thompson. He had a strong admiration of children and strived to make a difference in the young men and women in the community. During his pastime, he had a passion for farming, raising all sorts of vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, okra, cucumbers and peanuts. He also raised various species of livestock such as hogs, cows, horses, etc.
On August 14, 2017 Pastor Yates was called from labor to reward to live with his Heavenly Father beyond the sunset.
Pastor Yates leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters: Mary L. Yates-Butler of Sacramento CA; Dr. Betty J.
Yates-Bolden of Utica, MS; and Brenda L. Yates of Utica, MS; four grandchildren: Valarie Bolden-Paige (Pastor Elijah), Michelle Butler, Pastor McHenry Bolden, Jr. (Jacqueline) and Cassandra Butler-Davis (Rhani). Eight great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Charles Fields, Los Angeles, CA; four sisters-in-law, Marie K. Marshall, Jackson, MS; Doris K. Young, Utica, MS; Verlee K. Cunningham of Harrisburg, PA; and Daisy Yates, Los Angeles, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

There's a special Angel in Heaven that is a part of me.
It is not where I wanted him but where God wanted him to be.
He was here but just a moment like a night time shooting star.
And though he is in Heaven He isn't very far.
He touched the heart of many like only an Angel can do.
I would've held him every minute if the end I only knew.
So I send this special message to the Heaven up above.
Please take care of our Angel and send him all our love.
Love Always Your Girls, Betty, Lucille and Brenda
