and established "Goodie Kitchens" where Pauline became reknowned in Atlanta for her mouth-watering meals and delicious desserts. Her specialties were chicken salad, potato salad, sweet potato pies, chocolate cakes, ice tea, and the best pound cake on the east coast. Pauline also enjoyed entertaining friends, and will be remembered for the wonderful parties which she gave and the overloaded tables of food which were always present. To be invited into Pauline's kitchen was a privilege as well as a blessing! Pauline was a 1991 charter member of Tau Epsilon Omega, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she became a Golden Soror in 1994. Volunteering at The Children's Hospital was another source of pleasure for Pauline, a pursuit which she gravitated to naturally in light of her strong love for children which blossomed during her teaching career. Pauline will also be remembered for her love of physical activity. She and her friends in the neighborhood would form walking clubs, where the members in the group would "collect" each other at 4:30 am and would walk down to Washington High School and a number of turns around the track. When not involved in all these activities, Pauline loved to visit her friends and relatives, and loved spending time with her two granddaughters, Salaam and Dahomey. Known for her widespread generosity, she was a wonderful friend to many, and "parented" many children. She was affectionately known in the community by any number of names: Granny, Mama "P", Miz Pauline, and Sweetie Petuttie. Predeceasing Pauline are her parents, her husband of twenty years, Lowry Wright; one sister, Clara Colston, and one brother, Fred Pittman. Pauline Pitman Wright leaves to cherish her memory, a beloved son, Victor St. Clair Wright of Stamford, Connecticut, and two daughters, Paula Wright Coleman of Ft.Washington, Maryland and Pamella Fleming of Atlanta, Georgia; a beloved sister, Mrs. Geraldine Hankerson of Daytona Beach, Florida; two granddaughters, Salaam Coleman Smith and Dahomey Coleman; one grandson, Asa William Smith; two special and devoted cousins, Eugenia Johnson of Charleston, South Carolina, and Evelyn Inniss of Daytona Beach, Florida; two sons-in-law, Dr. Stanford Coleman, Jr. and Marvin Fleming; one sister-in-law,Wanda Pittman of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; and special friends, Margaret Higginbotham and family of Palm Springs, California, and Mrs. Mary Welchel of Atlanta, Georgia; and so many more cousins, former students, colleagues, neighbors and friends. She leaves us her words of wisdom: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", and her favorite parting phrase: "Make yourself useful!"

"BREATH" by Birago Diop
(It is the breath ofthe ancestors) Listen more often to things than to beings
Hear the fire's voice, Hear the voice ofwater. Hear, in the wind, the sobbing ofthe trees. It is the breath ofthe ancestors. The dead are not gone forever They are in the paling shadows, They are in the darkening shadows. The dead are not beneath the ground, They are in the rustling tree, In the murmuring wood,
the flowing water, The still water,
In the lonely place, in the crowd; The dead are never dead.
Listen more often to things than to beings. Hear the fire's voice
Hear the voice ofwater. In the wind hear the sobbing ofthe tress.
It is the breath ofthe ancestors. They are not gone
They are not beneath the ground They are not dead.
The dead are not gone forever. They are in a woman's breast, A child's cry, a glowing ember. The dead are not beneath the earth, They are in the flickering fire, In the weeping plant, the groaning rock, The wooded place, the home.
The dead are never dead. Listen more often to things than to beings
Hear the fire's voice, Hear the voice ofwater. Hear, in the wind, the sobbing ofthe trees. It is the breath ofthe ancestors.

May the ancestors guide you as you travel your great journey home.
