HI have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the
faith: Henceforth there is laid~ up~ for me a crown of righteousness
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at tha~ day: and not to me only, but unto 'all ofthem also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
On Saturday, July 19, 1997 the Angel of Mercy came into Sentara
Nursing Home, Hampton, Virginia, and took Mr. Benton Withers to
.his eternal home. He was the son of the late George and Sadie Bushnell Withers of Caswell County, North Carolina. He was born January 6, 1909. Benton was married to the late Fannie Brown Withers. He retired from Newport News Shipyard in 1973.
Benton was a kind, gentle, soft-spoken person who loved his family and his church. He wor}\ed while it was day, but the night cometh and God saw the road was getting rough and the hills hard to climb; he gently closed his loving eyes and said, let peace be thine.
He leaves to cherish his memory one stepdaughter, Mrs. LaVerne Brown of Hampton, Virginia; one granqson, Mr. Morris Martin, Jr. of Newport News, Vrrginia; _one gran.ddaughter, Darn~ Martin ofHampton, Virginia; one great granddaughter, Toya Martin of Hampton, Virginia; one brother, Mr. Forrest Withers of Ruffin, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Mamie W. Withers of Ruffin, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
You are the one, who leads the way, The shining truth that lights my day You are the peace that fills my soul That comforts m.e, that makes me whole
I am the one, who follows you, with thankful heart in all I do
0 precious Savior, I rejoice That I have heard thy loving voice When life is done, and I in death Shall draw one last reluctant breath You are the one whose face I'II see My blessed Lord, who died for me.
