Mother Gennie Lee Johnson Wimes
Mother Gennie Lee Johnson Wimes, daughter of the late
Smiley and Elnora Grimsley Johnson was born on October 5, 1934 in Colquitt, Georgia. She moved with her parents to Ft. Pierce, FL in the year 1948 settling on 9th Street and Avenue C.
Mother Wimes met Joe T. Wimes shortly after moving to St. Lucie County and on August 13, 1949 in Riverhead Long Island, NY, they were united in Holy Matrimony. This lovely couple became the parents of seven rambious siblings.
In 1954, at the apostolic church of Jesus, in the "Little Wooden Church" (on the corner of 16th Court and Avenue K) Mother Gennie Lee Wimes experienced a Christian rebirth under the watchful eye of the late Elder Valdosta Thomas. Mother Wimes was able to radiate her change throughout her life and was instrumental in leading her husband to a Christian deliverance causing him to become a dedicated and anointed man of God.
On Wednesday, October 23, 1996, God saw fit to call his servant of forty-two glorious years from earthly labor to her heavenly reward.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband, Elder Joe T. Wimes, Sr. of Ft. Pierce, FL; two sons: Joe T. Wimes, Jr. and Terry T. Wimes both _of Ft. Pierce, FL; five daughters: Geraldine Brown of Ft. Pierce, FL, Linda D. Anderson, Joanne D. Wesley and Julia C. Wimes all of Dallas, TX, and Theresa A. Jones of Monticello, FL; seventeen grandchildren (one preceded her in death); three great grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; five brothers: Edward and Sammy Johnson both of Ft. Pierce, FL, Willie Johnson of Rochester, NY, J.C. Johnson of Petersburg, VA and Robert Johnson of Vero Beach, FL; two sisters: Juanita Patterson of Rochester, NY and Ella Ruth Wimes of Vero Beach, FL; three sons-in-law: Charlie Brown of Ft. Pierce, FL, Mitchell Wesley of Dallas, TX, and Lloyd Wright of St. Petersburg, FL; two daughters-in-law: Lenora and Ella Wimes both of Ft. Pierce, FL; five brothers-in-law: Charlie Wimes and John L. Johnson of Vero Beach, FL, Andrew Wimes of Ft. Pierce, FL, Arlee Wimes of Dothan, AL and Harry Wilson of Melbourne, FL; eight sisters-inlaw: Ola, Mandy Dixon and Dorothy Wimes of Ft. Pierce, FL, Amanda of Rochester, NY, Louise of Petersburg, VA, Connie Freeman of Rochester, NY, Hilda Wilson of Melbourne, FL and Lois Johnson ofVero Beach1 FL; three Godsons: Johnny Jenkins, Jr. of Oslo, FL, Tony Johnson of Ft.
