Officiating
Mrs. Essie Harper Wilson, born August 31, 1911 in Dekalb County, Georgia, to the late Adam and Josie Harper, was the tenth of eleven children, all of which preceeded her in death. She crossed the threshhold to a larger life on Monday, August 7, 2000.
Mrs. Wilson was a pioneer member of this church who established Christian principles that spanned several generations until the present.
At an early age she joined The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr. Through the years, she served faithfully under the leadership of Reverend J. W. Tate, Reverend D. J. Moore, Reverend L. H. Pinkston,
and now the Reverend H. F. Shepherd. She served faithfully on the
Usher Board. Around the year 1929 she graduated from Booker T. Washing-
ton High School. She married the late Richard Wilson and together they
gained happiness and love, and a kind of peacefulness that they shared with their relatives and friends.
She was employed as a housekeeper. She sought to always do her best, consequently her services were much in demand. She retired in 1978.
She leaves to cherish her memory a nephew, Mr. & Mrs. Gregory (Gaynell) Evans; great grand nieces, Tiffany and Semika Evans; great-great-grand niece, Diamond Askin; one great -grandnephew, Xavier Ross; nieces, nephews, and several other relatives and friends.
