"To Those I Love"
IfI should ever leave you ofwhom I love To go along the silent way, grieve not, Nor speak ofme with tears,
but laugh and talk ofme as ifI were beside you there, I'd come, I'd come, could I but find a way! But would not tears and grief be barriers?
And when you hear a song or see a bird I lovedPlease do not let the thought of me be sad For I am lovi.ng you just as I always have. You were so good to me There are so many things I wanted still To do so many things to say to you Remember that I did not fear...
It was just leaving you that was so hard to face ... We cannot see beyond ... But this I know;
I loved you so- 'Twas heaven here with you! Isla Paschal Richardson

Mrs. Carey Lancaster Williams, affectionately known to many as "Miss Carrie", was born on August 22, 1913 in Macon, Georgia to Richard and Mattie Duff. She departed this life at the Heartland Hospice of Rockdale County, Georgia after a short illness on February 4, 2007. Early in her life, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan where she attended elementary school and began her Christian experience at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. Her service included active participation in the Young People's Department and the Young Adult Usher Board.
In 1945, she entered into matrimonial union with Mr. Henderson Lancaster. The couple moved to Idlewild, Michigan where she became an ardent member of Tabernacle A.M.E. Church. Continuing her Christian calling and reflecting her deep concern for others, she became a member of the Women's Missionary Society in 1952. During this time, she served as Treasurer and Promotion and Missionary Education Director for the Fourth Episcopal District. Another move placed her in Pontiac, Michigan where Mrs. Lancaster became affiliated with Newman A.M.E. Church, and contributed her leadership skills to the Julia Hoover Missionary Society as President and PME
Director. An advocate of education, Mrs. Lancaster received her GED from Ferris College in Grand
Rapids, Michigan. She obtained her Nursing degree in 1950 and retired from this profession after thirty years of dedicated service. Additional work experiences included her tenure as House Mother for the Daughters of Mercy and as Program Assistant for the Alzheimer's Society. Her passion for helping others attain educational success extended to her promotion of literacy projects after
moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1989. Upon moving to Atlanta, Mrs. Lancaster joined Saint Philip A.M.E. Church where she faithfully
and enthusiastically served in numerous capacities until she was called home. Her designated duties with the Nettie Lewis Moore Missionary Society consisted of Unit Two (Communication and Survival) Team Leader and coordinator of the Adult Literacy Program. In this capacity, Mrs. Lancaster was instrumental in establishing the GED Program at Saint Philip. She was the HistoriographerStatistician of the local Society and the Parliamentarian on the conference level. Consistent with her dedication to her church, its people, and her faith, she served as Class Leader and member of Christian Education. Committed to keep active and vital, although well into her eighties, she was a member of the Senior Retirees of Saint Philip and even the Co-director of the senior computer
classes. For one so active, Mrs. Lancaster still had time for romance. In 2002, she became Mrs. Williams
after her marriage to Chaplain Alonzia Kent Williams. She entered this union with the same optimism and joy that characterized all of her commitments and interactions with all she knew.
Mrs. Lancaster Williams earned an impressive collection of awards and recognition for her church and community activities which included: the Lancaster Homes Dedication, Detroit, Michigan, Georgia Lamp Light Award, Women of Valor Award, Sister of Sarah Award, and was appointed to the Commission on Elderly Affairs for Office of Aging, Fulton County, Georgia. Her engaging smile and sincere concern for others, endearing hallmarks of her character, will be greatly missed but forever
remembered by all who knew her. Mrs. Carey Lancaster Williams was prececed in death by her husband, Chaplain Alonzia Kent
Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory, nieces, Ms. Carena Smith and Ms. Matia Smith, Idlewild, Michigan; cousin, Mrs. Deon Rutledge of Atlanta, Georgia; goddaughter and family, Reverend and Mrs. William Gathers (Gaye); dear friends and companions, Mrs. Nettie Lewis Moore, Mrs. Louise Goldson, Mrs. Marion Foster of Conyers, Georgia; and a host of sorrowing relatives and
friends.
If I can help somebody along the way
If I can help somebody with a word or song
If I can show somebody that he's traveling wrong
Then my living shall not be in vain.
