BISHOP MOTHER RUBY TORAIN WHITESIDES was born to the late Ellen and John Torain in Paducah, Kentucky on July 5, 1900.
In 1918 Mother Whitesides was united in holy matrimony to the late Bishop John Clarence Whitesides in Paducah, Kentucky. To this union of fifty-seven years eight children were born, six girls and two boys.
Bishop Mother Whitesides was a devout Christian. She began her fellowship with God at an early age in Paducah, Kentucky at the Church of the Living God - Pentecostal. As an ordained minister she worked in the ministry alongside her husband, the late Bishop J. C. Whitesides.
On October 4, 1985 Bishop Mother Ruby Whitesides made her transition at Bernard Mitchell Hospital at 2:30p.m. after a lengthy illness.
She leaves to cherish her love and memory six daughters, Viola Crider and Ann Warren of Los Angeles, California, Betty Reed, Virginia Leverson, Gloria Cotton and Barbara N. Rivers of Chicago, lllinois; two sons, J. C. Whitesides of Portland, Oregon and Malcolm Whitesides of Park Forest, lllinois; one sister, Alma Torain of StLouis, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sons and daughters-in-law, and a host of relatives and friends.
