OBITUARY
Dino Wesley was born on October 8, 1954 in Gary, Indiana to Jesse Lee and Huey Olivia (Cobbins) Wesley. He claimed his promise of eternal life on Wednesday, May 10, 2006. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at Delaney Memorial Methodist Church in Gary, IN. He attended Emerson High School and graduated from Clark Atlanta's business program. After graduation from college Dino made Atlanta, Georgia his home and lived in Atlanta for almost thirty years.
Dino Wesley was an active supporter and leader within the NAACP, UNCF, his alma mater CAU, and his church Ben Hill UMC. He will long be remembered for his warm personality and passion for the causes, and by those who were near and dear to him. "Dino was involved in o many activities, I often wondered how he had the time and how he got invited," says Catherine Moon; longtime worker in the United Methodist Church, and Dino Wesley's "adopted" mom.
He came to Atlanta from Gary, Indiana in the 1970's to attend Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University). While at Clark College, a United Methodist institution, he joined Ben Hill United Methodist Church under the pastorship of the late Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson. He involved himself in the United Methodist Church on the local, state, and national levels. His involvement at Ben Hill UMC ranged from the Trustee Board and Communion Stewards, to the Usher Team and Male Chorus. He also taught, and took bible study classes in the Ben Hill Training Institute. Beyond the local church, he served as President of the Georgia Caucus for the Black Methodist Church Renewal; Associate Lay Leader for the Atlanta-College Park District; an At-Large Member of the Conference Board of Laity; First District Associate Lay Leader, and on the District Board of Trustees.
Ironically, Dino Wesley, also nicknamed the "Bishop" by his close friends, proudly served on the Bishop's Vision Forum for the United Methodist Church. According to Reverend McCallister Hollins, Senior Pastor of Ben Hill, he was the epitome of what it means to be an ambassador for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the United Methodist Church. His various contributions to the church served as a legacy for those of us who continue to serve.
He especially enjoyed his involvement with students where he served as Undergraduate VicePresident for the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association, and as Chair of Judges for the NAACP's ACTSO (Academic Cultural Technology Scientific Olympics). He was frequently spotted on television during the annual UNCF Telethon, and at various community projects for his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha.
Dino leaves to cherish his memory, one sister, Dianne Wesley Brewer of Chicago, IL.; his brothers Jesse Wesley, Jr. (Linda ) and Carl Wesley (Jacqueline) of Gary, IN; two aunts Ethel Morgan (Willie) of South Bend, IN and Julia Regan of Vicksburg, MS; one Great Aunt Mamie Elam Hicks; Cousins: Dr. Willie Morgan (Alicia), Warren-Robbin, GA; Dr. Theodore Morgan (Letha), Montgomery, AL; Laveeda Morgan Battle (Lynn), Birmingham, AL, Marchelle Morgan Goens (Donald), Flossmoor, ll; Christopher Lloyd (Alice), John Lloyd and Archie Harmon; Chicago, IL; Barbara Regan, George Regan, Ewing Regan (Julia), Ernest Regan, Ronald Regan, Beverly Regan, of Vicksburg Mississippi, the Ware Family and a host of relatives including nieces and nephews and many friends.
