REFLECTIONS OF LIFE
Dorothy Jean Kindred Walker, beloved mother, grandmother, church mother, cherished friend and daughter of the late Georgia (Nunnally) Kindred and Leagie Kindred was born at home on June 10, 1934 on 38th Street in Columbus, GA. Dorothy died peacefully and beautifully on August 29, 2015 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was 81 years old.
Being a depression-era baby, things were rough. However, at an early age she learned the value of community, sharing and trusting in God. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter L. Kindred, John L. Kindred and Roosevelt Kindred; one son, James Walker; and two grandchildren, Julian and Rosetta Walker.
Dorothy was baptized at an early age at Greater Bellwood Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.C. Cook. She was an active member taking special interest in the youth of the church until moving to Decatur, GA 10 years ago. Dorothy joined Higher Grounds Christian Church under the leadership of Bishop Ricky Holmes which later changed its name to Word Church International under the leadership of Pastor Ron Daugherty and remained a faithful and active member until the decline of her health.
Dorothy attended Claflin and Spencer High Schools in Columbus, graduating with high honors in 1952. In 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, James Walker, at the tender age of 17. From this union she was blessed with nine children, whom she loved and dedicated her entire life being the best provider possible. She was employed as a Medical Assistant at the St. Francis and Martin Army Hospitals in Columbus and Ft. Benning, GA, later becoming a highly sought after and decorated Dental Assistant on Post.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories eight awesomely loved and appreciative children: Julius (JT) Walker, Myron Walker, Karon Byrd, Sharon Griffith, Constance (Gregory) Crocker, Wendell Walker, Althea Tarver and Carolyn (James) McCloud. In addition she leaves a legacy of 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; one sister, Murtis Crawford of Chicago, IL, and a host of dearly loved nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

"LORD"
If it's time to close my eyes, I fret not. If it's time to take my breath away, I fret not. If it's time to silence my heart beats, I fret not, For only you control the essence of timing. I fret not, For only you can deflate my temporal existence, Or disconnect my temporary life; this earthen vessel. Yet, I fret not, for only you can reconnect me To your sacred promise of a beautiful eternal life.
So Lord, I am not bidding farewell to life, I am cheerfully embracing a new beginning with you in heaven. For this reason Lord, I am so grateful that you have chosen me
To scroll on your streets of gold. Therefore My Jehovah Jireh, I acknowledge your divine powers,
For you are my source, and my provider. Now Lord, as you prepare me to transition, I freely submit every woven fiber of my being That you created with your breath of life. So Lord, I fret not, and I have no fear while awaiting your clarion call
To draw me nearer and nearer to thee. Yes Lord, in the Promised Land there is sweet peace
Like a river, and sweet rest for my soul. In the Promised Land; in the Promised Land, Because Lord my life is truly in your hands.
