OBITUARY
Mrs. Bessie Lee Tolbert Walker, born September 12, 1918, Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia departed this life Monday, August 25, 1986 at Medical Center of Central Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Charlie Tolbert and Mrs. Mary Lyles Tolbert.
She moved to Macon, Georgia at the age of five and attended Green Street Elementary School and graduated from Hudson High Industrial School. She learned early to appreciate beauty. After graduation she attended Cargo Beauty School in Savannah, Georgia.
On January 27, 1942 Bessie united in holy matrimony with Dessau Walker.
After marriage she continued to study in her field of endeavor. She attended The National Beauty Culturist League for Continuing Education in Cosmetology in Chicago, Ill, Washington, D.C., Denver, Colorado and New York City. Also, she attended Ft. Valley State College and Savannah State College.
She united with the St. Paul A.M.E. Church at an early age and later joined St. Luke Baptist Church to be with her husband. After his death she returned to St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
She taught Cosmetology at Ward Street Vocational School. In 1956 she became the founder of Walker's Beauty Academy.
In 1961 she taught Cosmetology at Ballard Hudson Sr. High School and McEvoy High School and Bibb Tech School.
She joined t he staff of Macon Area Tech School until retiring in December 1980.
She is one of the Past Presidents of the Macon Beauty Culturist League and for many years and was owner and operator of Walker's Beauty Shop.
She was a member uf the Stewardess Board, Missionary Board and Phylis Wheatley Club of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
She was a member of Venus Court #70 of Heroines of Jericho, The Florence Scott Garden Club and served on the Advisory Council for Macon Area Tech and Bibb Tech Schools.
Mrs. Walker was a hard worker and capable planner with a deep concern for others. She was a blessing to the city of Macon and all of the lives she touched.
