"The Last Request"
Please don't say that I gave up, just say I gave in. Don 't say I lost the battle, for it was God's war to lose or win.
Please don 't say how good I was, but that I did my best... Just say I tried to do what was right, to give the most I could, not to do less.
Please don 't give me wings or halos, that 's for God to do. I want no more than I deserve. No extras, just my due. Please don't give flowers or talk in harsh tones.
Don 't be concerned about me now, I'm well with God, I've made it home.
Don 't talk about what could have been, it 's over and it 's done, Just see to all my family needs, the battle has been won.
When you, draw a picture ofme, don 't draw me as a saint. I've done some good I've done some wrong, so use all your paint.
Not just the bright and light tones, use some gray and dark, In fact don 't put me down on canvas, paint me in your heart.
Don 't just remember good times, but remember some bad. For life is full ofmany things, some happy and some sad.
But ifyou must do something, then I have one last request. Forgive me ofthe wrong I've done, with all the love that's left.
Thank Godfor my soul's resting. Thank Godfor I've been blessed. Thank Godfor all who loved me, praise God who loves me best.
A Time to be born: Eugene Ushery, (also affectionately called "Skinny" and "Gene"), the sixth of nine children of the late Jake Ushery, Sr. and Lillie M. Ushery, was born October 22, 1937 in Crawfordville, (Taliferro County) Georgia. Two brothers preceded him in death, Willie Florence and Jake, Jr.
A Time to Live: Eugene received his education in the Taliferro County Public Schools. He worked hard for forty-two years to support his family. Of those years he worked eighteen years at Gordon Potatoes, fifteen years at Daniel Radiator and nine years at Grady Memorial Hospital. He retired in 1998. He loved people and was known best by his infectious laughter, love of life and sense of humor.
A time to Love: He relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he married Rushie Bell Sherrer in 1958. This union was blessed with two children, Annette and Melvin Eugene, who preceded him in death.
A Time to Serve: Eugene was a "Working Christian in Progress." He loved going back home every year to worship at the family home church, Friendship Baptist Church in Crawfordvile, Georgia. He attended other churches in Atlanta, but never united with one. His faith was evidence by his "stand up spirit" during his period of illness. He will be remembered as a faithful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.
A Time To Rest: Eugene departed this life on February 23, 2005 at 7:05 a.m. Cherishing the happy times, he leaves wonderful memories to a loving wife of forty-six years, Mrs. Rushie Bell Ushery; daughter, Annette Sherrer; granddaughters, Melaney and Rushelle; great granddaughter, Gabby all of Atlanta, Georgia; grandson, Melvin Ushery, Jr. (a senior at North Carolina A&T State University); his loving mother, Mrs. Lillie M. "In Tribute"
God watched you as you suffered He knows you had your share
He gently closed your weary eyes And took you in his care
The years may wipe out many things But this day wipe out never
The memory ofthose happy days When we were all together
Rest in peace your work is ended Sweetly, sleep, your race is run You have gone where those who love you Soon are coming one by one.
The Family
The family wishes to express sincere and heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation for their many friends during our loved one's illness and our hour of bereavement. May God continue to bless and keep each of you.
