Marie Shivers rfurnipseed was born on December 9, 1925, the youngest of 22 children, born to the late John and Mary Vene Shivers. She departed this life on May 5, 2010.
She joined Mount Nebo Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend P.J. Dodson. She enjoyed singing and was a member of Choir No. 1. She continued to work diligently under the leadership of Reverend
AJ. McMichael and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and served on the
Mothers' Board.
She was a loving and devoted caregiver for people of all ages. During the early years of her career, she worked for several daycare centers until the Lord blessed her with her own business (Kiddie Kane Daycare Nursery). Later in life, she was a community servant and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program. Because she treated her clients as though they were her own family, she received various awards for her dedicated service.
Among the greatest joys of her life were gardening and caring for her grandchildren. She had the ability to grow the best tomatoes, cucumbers, and "hot" peppers. She was always an active part of her grandchildren's lives from birth through grade school and college. This closeness remained intact even with her great-grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Wade; four children, Josephine Wyatt, Malinda Gail (Anthony) Molock, Janet Turnipseed Jackson and Cassandra Marie rfurnipseed; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, family members and friends. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Eleanor McGill and Mary Minnitee; two sons and one granddaughter.

Loved and respected by all she touched, Her whole life she did trod,
Steadily and faithfully, onward toward God! In the church is where she raised,
Her light knit family crew, with them at every service, And Bible Study loo.
Simply having children, does not a mother make, Grandchildren on the kitchen rug, Until all their food they ate!
No filling up on soda, No water from the sink, Until you finished all your food, You got nothing to drink! She didn't handicap her children, Making life an easy cinch, Oh no, she'd take it to them with, Fly swatter or a switch! What she knew, she knew, Practiced her faith with skill,
Whatever rnusl happen will happen, "If it's the Lord's will."
Her word was law in her house, to fight it was absurd! She'd look al you, and she would say, "Don't you "spute" my word." From the nursery that she ran,
To her taking care of us, to the garden in her yard, To the Meals on Wheels mini-bus. How she helped us with our hygiene, How she sent us out so clean,
How she kept our faces shiny, by applying Vaseline! Through all this work for family, It was quite a feat, How her make-up and her hair, Were always nice and neat! To top that off we watched, As her lips she carefully doused, Immaculately with lipstick, Even if she didn't leave the house!
What a child doesn't gel, he can rarely later give, Her tough love and God, Will forever in us live.
We love you Mom, Grandmother, Auntie, And we say this as you leave,
We are tall, strong and upright, Because YOU bent your knees!
