Rowena Alicia Turner was born on November 16, 1949 in Boston Massachusetts to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Qeannette) Adams. Rowena was preceded in death by, her parents and her special cousin, Clifford "Juney" Outley, Jr. of Boston, Massachusetts, who was raised like her brother.
She attended Boston Public Schools until her sophomore year and later graduated from Vernon High School in Leesville, Louisiana. After graduating high school, Rowena returned to Boston where she was employed by the State of Massachusetts for ten years, working in the accounts payable department. Eventually, Rowena was promoted in her career and worked for the accounts payable department with Boston Gas for the next five years. In 1984, Rowena gave birth to her only daughter, Sheena Turner.
After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia Rowena was employed by M orehouse School of Medicine until her retirement. Rowena volunteered countless hours with the Fulton County Voter Registration office, serving as a ballot counter. While attending the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Facility, she offered her time to make blankets for the homeless. Rowena also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, listening to jazz music and cooking for her family and friends.
Despite her illness, Rowena continued to keep a smile on her face and always had a positive attitude. She truly had a zest for life and had an upbeat personality. Rowena was a dedicated mother, who gave unwavering support to Sheena in all of her endeavors.
Rowena gave her life to Christ at an early age and later became a devoted member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. She made her transition peacefully on March 5, 2018.
Rowena is survived by, her daughter, Sheena Turner of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Charles (Angie) Adams, Jr. of Ellenwood, Georgia; her special cousin, Cecil Outley of Boston, Massachusetts; her godson, Keith (Michelle) Foxx of Springfield, Virginia; life,long friends: Mary Foxx and Ella Williams, both of Boston, M assachusetts, Cyrus and Brenda Jackson of Fayetteville, Georgia, Carolyn Hudson of College Park, Georgia, Timothy and Lisa Brayboy of Locust Grove, Georgia, and Juquita W alker of Union City, Georgia; and a host of family and friends.
