1934- 2002
Scatter me not to restless winds Nor toss my ashes to the sea
Remember now those years gone by When loving gifts I gave to thee Remember now the happy times The family ties we shared
Don 't leave my resting-place unmarked As though you never cared Deny me not one final gift For all who come to see
A single lasting proofthat says I loved.............. and You loved me
We Do Love You Mama!
Wednesday, April 17, 2002 the soul of Gwendolyn Perkins Travis found everlasting peace and entered the dwelling place of her Heavenly Father.
Gwen was bornMay 30, 1934 to the late Ouida and Emory C. Perkins, Sr. She attended East Point Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.
During her early life Gwen was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. After her marriage to Frank Travis she became a faithful member of the Mallalieu United Methodist Church.
A dedicated and faithful servant, she was President of The United Methodist Women's organization for over 20 years. Gwen implemented The Feed The Hungry Program and tirelessly worked and supported many other organizations and auxiliaries within the church.
She was also a very active member of the Las Amigas, Inc. Civic and Social Club and The Artistic Dogwood Garden Club until her health began to fail.
Gwen was employed by Delta Airlines for 32 years, before retiring in 1993.
A beautiful woman of style and grace in both character and appearance, Gwen loved whole-heartedly and gave unselfishly. She will be forever missed by those who cherish her having lived.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Frank I. Travis; daughters, Teressa Travis Reid, Carmen (Hulon) Kemp, and Toni Demetria Travis; granddaughters, Diondria (Sergio) Gore and Megan Gwendolyn Kemp; grandsons, Phillip Quinard Reid, Derrick Terrell Miller, Jr., and Hulon Travis (Tre') Kemp; great grandchildren , Morgan, Erin, Alison, and Chase Gore; brother, Manuel Perkins, Sr. ; sister, Sherry (Joe) Whitlow of Cleveland, Ohio, Norma Foster and Rose (James) Bush; sister-in-law, Lucille Perkins, Betty Maddox, and Pearl Jackson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, Now there is in store for me a crown oj righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day: and not to me only, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
II Timothy 4:7-8
