Obituary
Ms. Dorothy L Tolbert, also known as Dot, was born on April17, 1931, in Atlanta, Ga. She was the youngest of five children born to the late John Tolbert and Clara Fears Tolbert. Her siblings were the late John Tolbert Jr., Miriam Tolbert Coley, Naomi Tolbert Broadnax- Scott, and Bennie Tolbert. Dot transitioned from this life on Saturday, June 25, 2011.
Dot was educated in the Atlanta Public School System. She received the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a teenager at Antioch Baptist Church North, and was a member for many years ... She was truly an Instrument of God's Peace.
During Dot's young adult life, her family moved from the 5th Ward community to a community known as Waterbury. On Waterbury Dot thrived. She was the resident manager, if you could not make your rent, you went to Dot. She would advocate on your behalf and if needed, she as well as others would organize rent parties (also known as a benefit). They would sell chicken, fish, and chitterling dinners to help pay your rent. Dot was also a childcare provider. You could leave your child with her knowing they were in good hands and very well-cared for. She was also a hair stylist; she would make sure all the neighborhood girls were looking their best on Easter Sunday! Dot was an avid lover of puzzles and crossword puzzles. Dot was also a wonderful cook. She took pride in preparing meals for her family and friends. Her food was so good that it could have been sold in restaurants. Dot meant so many things to so many people and had many talents but, her main job was taking care of her aging parents. She did it with love, compassion and never complained.
So that is how she lived her life with lots of love for her children, Ronald and Chandra, grandchildren Ronald Jr. Quintavius, Cameron and Brandon as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
